About this deal

The Donner amp requires you to be tethered with a cable if you’re using headphones, so if you’d like to go the Bluetooth route, I recommend getting a Bluetooth guitar amp as well. I played it a couple hours before I made myself stop and and tweak the saddle a little to get it just right. The accessories to start off are basic, but really helps in getting started as soon as you receive the package. To play more comfortably, the bridge (especially a tremolo bridge) needs special tuning, which directly affects the comfort of the play. This guitar is part of the Donner Seeker series that includes 3 different guitars sharing a lot of characteristics: the Donner DST-152, the DST-200, and the DST-400, reviewed by Guitar International HERE.Tuners and all other important hardware like the bridge seem to be working well which is the most important thing.

The height of the string over the 12th fret is very personal, but when you set it too high, it will be difficult to play, and when it is too low, it will cause fret buzzing. Before the test, I did the usual setup for new guitars: neck relief (not necessary in this case), strings action, intonation, tremolo lubrication (oil), and nut lubrication (graphite). But for learning and getting into guitars this is a well made and was set up quite well compared to other cheaper guitars I've played over the years. This Donner comes with everything you need to start your "Journey" (faithfully), including an electronic tuner, amp , and much more. JS22 Dinky can also handle more gentle stuff and has a compound radius which makes riffing near to neck and soloing closer to the body really smooth. That being said, this guitar has reinvigorated my drive to want to learn and I've played nearly everyday since, just to learn basics and prove that I can do it. I've got a few strat's and a brand new Donner 152 that I'm looking to either Re-fret or swap the neck.

Note: Neglecting the instructions above or subjecting your instrument to extreme temperatures may void the Donner warranty. But there are plenty of options for tone-shaping, especially with the dual-position switch for the humbucking bridge pickup.

The fret fronts were polished, so no raspy sound from the strings and the fret ends are really smooth. It lacks the coil-split, but offered a better out-of-the-box setup(at least my copy) and better sounding, less spanky neck single-coil. Make sure you keep holding the string straight and the string should pass through the nut (Figure 2. Refer to the specific instructions provided by the manufacturer for adjusting the string action/height on locking tremolos. But still, everything else is working well and is well assembled, so that’s why I won’t complain more about these small flaws in a cheap guitar.
