Istg the fmc in this book is cringe, annoying, disgusting, and she acts like she so thirst over him- like stfu bitchhh- seriously. Margo is still nursing a broken heart from her jerk ex when his deliciously gruff and broody older brother drops a bomb: he just bought the company where she works and has chosen Margo to be his new personal assistant.
It was so good to read a story where neither party was traumatised, low on angst, and simply a beautiful but steamy romance. i give credit to his Taylor Swifts “Mastermind” themed plans because his obsession with the h and how he treats her throughout this book is the strongest point of Black Ties and White Lies. While others may find more enjoyment in this audiobook, I personally found myself unable to finish it. One minute you're a struggling graphic designer in LA that's finally coming to terms with being single forever, and the next you're flying to New York in a private jet to get engaged to your ex-boyfriend's older brother.After her boyfriend of three years revealed himself to be a serial cheater, Margo cut off all contact – including to the mysterious and sexy brother she only met one time. These distractions consistently disrupted the flow and prevented me from fully engaging with the story. It all felt like the author saw a bunch of these quote videos on tiktok, decided to take the most viral ones into the book, throw sex scenes and publish it. Also the MMC just randomly comes out with overly sexual phrases when the FMC is being a brat which sound so forced and quite cringey, something no person would do in any normal circumstance. Her portrayal of the protagonist, in particular, left much to be desired, as it failed to evoke any genuine connection.
