For an expensive pump, it’s a shame it doesn’t come with a travel bag – although the DUO version does come with one. It can also be difficult to detach the motor unit from the bottle when you finish expressing and milk can drip out. Breastfeeding difficulties, breastfeeding duration, maternal body mass index, and breast anatomy: are they related? Abby: I feel maybe different-sized cushion attachments would benefit some mums, although it is super handy to not have to root through size cushions to benefit the breast, it may be handy to others to have options - just in case the "one size fits all" wasn't applicable to them. Other benefits include our Natural bottle and teat for natural latch-on, compact, lightweight design, handy travel bag and intuitive assembly.

The pieces can be tricky to put together at first and you may find it fiddly to detach the power unit without a few spillages, but these issues do not detract from its overall effectiveness. The Medela also included 3 additional accessories: a travel pouch (not a dealbreaker), plastic pouches that enable you to sterilise the pump in the microwave and most importantly milk storage pouches that attach to the pump so that you can express directly into them before storing. I washed the breast pump on the top rack of my dishwasher which is one of the recommended options, but you can also sterilise in boiling water after washing by hand.I don’t think anything stands out about this product and other pumps have more attractive and helpful features. I found the LED display highlighting the time spent pumping to be an especially useful feature, as in a sleepless fog it can be hard to keep track of timings for every pumping session.

The Philips Avent Single electric breast pump has a compact and lightweight design and features three pumping settings: a soft massage cushion with a warm feel and a bottle with a teat for a natural latch-on.The benefit of having this many levels is that I could experiment with what works best for my own individual milk flow, and found each session could sometimes be different than the last. I only used the breast pump at home, but if you did need to express at work or out and about, then this pump is easy to transport. The fact that this is a closed system with the milk unable to get into the suction tubing is a big positive for me, as being able to pass it on to my family who may have children after me makes it much more cost-effective. Perhaps a larger bottle or even a discount on a larger bottle included in the pack would have been appreciated.
