About this deal

The Cretacolor Monolith pencil is woodless - just 7mm of graphite with a thin lacquer coating - which allows you to use a huge range of strokes and techniques.

Derwent are an old British company (although now American owned) and are based in an area near the original Borrowdale mine in Cumbria where graphite was first discovered and was famously mistaken for lead. Cass Art, Cass Art London and the Cass Art logo are trade marks and trade names of Art-Line Limited. We won’t ask any questions, you’ll never hear us challenge your decision and we will make sure you won’t have to wait long for your full refund. They are extremely large in diameter and feel very chunky in the hand, which some people will like and others will not.

You can create everything from broad strokes to tiny details using the same pencil, and it's easily sharpened, just like a conventional pencil.

All in all I didn’t feel that the Grafwoods were for me, but I’d advise you to try them for yourself and make your own mind up.Therefore if you don’t put your pencil back with the lettering facing up you can’t tell which grade is which.

It’s useful to know whether a range runs on the light or dark side, because most people will actively prefer one or other. The colours start from a pure white casing for the 4H grade, and then get progressively more grey towards the silvery HB. Each pencil has a smooth, finely textured graphite strip and a hexagonal barrel that's comfortable to hold.
