It's worth reading for his interesting life story but probably could have been done really well in 100 pages. Nat is an outsider; not fitting the typical mould of society with long hair, tattoos and piercings matching his rock'n'roll persona. No part of our weird world and strange behaviour is spared as our long-haired guru tells us what he reckons about it all - and amps up the flavour with some eye-watering stories from his early years before a sweary video about pasta sauce shot him to global fame.

Nat is the honest ratbag we love to hate because he knows where it hits hard and continues to poke us until we're begging him to stop! Nat’s debut book Un-cook Yourself: A Ratbag’s Rules For Life topped bestseller lists in its first week of release and went on to win Booktopia’s Favourite Australian Book Award of 2020 (the proceeds of which Nat donated to Beyond Blue), and was nominated for Non-Fiction Book of the Year in the Australian Book Industry Awards.Regardless, he's on point about a few things in this work, especially people telling you to cheer up or man up. The good news is, I have done a little investigation and found an easy and very cost-effective way to get hold of this from one of the big booksellers. Lastly, the recipes themselves are illustrated by several local Sydney artists, and are excellent - I think comic format works really well to portray his video style, and they're still informative and easy to follow. But it's very much in Nat's voice and when I was listening to the audio book, there was something about him addressing me directly as "champion" that got me right in the feels. Nat's hilarious social commentary has collected him a fast-growing, dedicated audience of over two million along the way, and his videos have clocked up more than 100 million views across all platforms. I love that he’s not tried to package this as self help or advice, but has just written about himself and his own experiences and let people interpret whatever the fuck they like from that. Not enough has been spoken on this subject and Nat and his mrs Jules (not sure I spelt that right) go a long way to make this issue NOT an issue.There’s some deep bits, some serious bits, lots of stories that wouldn’t be out of place at a mate’s after a few drinks, or down the pub for that matter. I came across Nat when one of his videos was suggested to me on TikTok, I was instantly in love with his personality and way of explaining things, so when I saw he had a book out I raced to get it, I was not disappointed the way he explained mental illnesses and talked about his personal experiences it just felt like he was talking straight to me. Beware, it includes explicit language and Australian slang but comes with a handy glossary to help understand the slang (and sometimes the swearing).
