About this deal

Cara Stringer, née Carmichael, aged 37, is married to Dom, a professional football manager (although elsewhere he is referred to as the assistant head coach, and yes, it is Man United) and consequently they live in a huge house in Cheshire. From Cara with her nervous colon to Jac with her inside knowledge on HTGAWM add in Queen of the Unfiltered Mouth, Amy (It me! Propelled towards internet stardom in 2017 for a parody of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’, her stand-up, songs and sketches focus on the messier side of life and the truth about parenting. No longer fun and lighthearted it turns into an action story and there are very strange and tedious links to characters met earlier. This book would make a brilliant film so I hope it gets made into one one day, I could picture Rebel Wilson playing Amy 🤩 Highly recommend!

I follow Sophie on Instagram, find her entertaining and realistic so was intrigued to read her first piece of fiction. Lazy days, crazy nights and child-free hangovers sound like hedonistic heaven - but it turns out you can get into a hell of a lot of trouble on the party island where rules are meant to be broken. The book is pure entertainment; Cara Carmichael's life is absolutely turned upside down by her cheating husband. Cara has separated from her husband, and is persuaded to go on a hen do to Ibiza, what could possibly go wrong?

Move on two years and she is hell bent on accompanying her friend Jac and more friends on her hen do to Ibiza. This is a book that pumps along at full velocity (much like the party beat on the island) and it sometimes feels relentless, with its often acute observations and lewd descriptions (get this one: Jac, now the colour of an angry penis about to go off…. I loved the characters in the book and lots of it really gave me the same vibe as the movie 'Bridesmaids'. A rollocking rollercoaster ride from Ibiza to Vegas, via Cheshire, Mother Hens will make you laugh, wince, and wonder what any of us are really capable of when push comes to shove.

Cara Carmichael’s bestie is finally getting hitched, and she’s over the moon because it means one thing… Whoah, they’re going to Ibiza! For Cara, it's a chance to forget about her messy divorce and explosive feud with a stardom-seeking sister and Pina-Colada pickled mother. Looking at the cover of this book, you would assume this is a fun, carefree, all girls trip filled with sun sea and sand.

Add in the fact that so much of this book is a joke or a pun that it’ll make your head spin by the end. Cara Carmichael's bestie is finally getting hitched, and she's over the moon because it means one thing. A great light hearted, entertaining read that would pull you out of any slump and brighten your mood instantly. Not sure I was fully on board with the plot, a mum version of The Hangover, where the hen do does not ho to plan and they have to fix what happened the morning after the night before. Once in Ibiza it is clear nothing is going to plan and obviously her sister is there celebrating her hen do too. Mums on ditching kids, partners and better judgement for a long-weekend of sun, sea, and sex…y support pants. I liken it to going to watch Dirty Dancing the musical and your brain takes a while to readjust to it not being exactly like the movie.

All in all I would recommend as a fun summer beach read, if you want a book packed with surprises and laugh out loud one liners! I immediately detested Dom (the weasel) and Cara’s mother is a piece of work too (don’t get me started about Cara’s younger stepsister CA chaotic story that pulls at all the emotions, Sophie’s Mother Hens is the Mums on Tour version of the Inbetweeners.

I am a follower of Sophie and was so looking forward to this book, who doesn't love a crazy hen story? It was also just so relatable, which I think is what made it so funny, because you can relate to the characters and what they’re going through. Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook).
