About this deal

Even though first he’ll have to get over some major trust issues he has probably developed from Ma 😅 But I am choosing to believe he has a happy life or else I will loose sleep over it. She switched to one of the languages she’d learned in the monastery (but never practiced) and said very badly, “You can speak Uyghur, can’t you? Young, ambitious, and in possession of the Mandate of Heaven, Zhu believes utterly in her own capacity to do anything - endure anything - that will allow her to seize the imperial throne from the Mongols and crown herself Emperor. I can already tell that the main criticism readers will level at this book is that it’s too depressing and cruel. Riding high on her recent victory, Zhu Yuanzhang is now the Radiant King – brilliant, ambitious and unstoppable in her quest for greatness .

I didn’t love it quite to the extent that I did the first book, for reasons which I might briefly theorise on, but I still enjoyed reading it. There is a point where, after swallowing the world, the only thing left for his darkness to swallow is him. In terms of their arcs though, I would have to admit that Baoxiang’s was the only one which I was truly interested in.maybe its because this installment focuses more on the war of wits and mental fortitude rather than the war of strength and strategy that was present in the first book? While I understand where this sentiment comes from, I’ll admit that I wasn’t overly bothered by the turn things took. He hates the way they view him, he hates the way they discard him, he hates that they find him worthless. I don’t know how well done the other characters were but, I can assure you, this one was a masterpiece. Zhu in particular manages to inhabit a world that is neither entirely male or female and succeed in part because of that distinction.

A gripping tale of rise to power, fate, betrayals and the bloody beginnings and endings of dynasties. I was captivated by their tragic arcs, their Machiavellian schemes, and their supremely twisted relationships with one another. All of the characters in this book are rich and complex providing unique perspectives on how pain, power, and grief can change a person. Most grimdark really falls down for me because atrocities in the story occur on a surface level, wallowing in physical blood and guts without ever interrogating the long-term consequences that follow. However, there are two deaths in this book that just did not have the weight and impact I expected them to have.If the world can barely stand to let its eye fall upon a man as lacking as you, do you think it would accept you on the throne? I loved how complex this work was and appreciate how well the author combined so many elements and moving parts to create a compelling conclusion that didn’t feel forced. But that discomfort, and the daily repercussions of being a one-handed man in a two-handed world, was merely the cost of her desire, and Zhu was strong enough to bear it. Zhu is a hero unlike any other - her propulsive desire to survive at any cost powers a glorious novel that encompasses grand betrayal, love, loss and triumph .

While She Who Became the Sun was slow and focused on a couple of characters, He Who Drowned the World quicken the pace and raised the stakes higher and higher until the only thing you could do was keep reading. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.Zhu Yuanzhang, her golden king’s armor and gilded wooden hand matching the color of the grass under her horse’s hooves, saw the generals of the opposing armies walking towards each other with deliberate courtesy. Whether it's from one battle to the next, the conquering of a territory, or the heart-wrenching betrayal, Parker-Chan never lets up on the throttle.
