About this deal

Here he lands in the centre of all the intrigue of the Emperor Hadrian’s inner court, where everyone is plotting to become the next Emperor. RECRUITED as a gladiator, young Marcus Cornelius Primus faces a new life of brutal training, governed by strict rules, as he learns the skills of an elite warrior. However, it works well and in doing so corrects the inevitable inaccuracies of the film and uses that as a platform to give a very readable description of the Roman Army, the Emperors, and indeed potential role models for Maximus Decimus Meridius, the eponymous Gladiator. It will compare the battle and fight scenes in the film with reality from contemporary sources and modern tests and reenactments.

In each hour of the day we meet a new character - from a senator to a slave girl, a gladiator to an astrologer, watchmen to washerwomen - and discover the fascinating details of their daily lives. The books tell the story of Marcus Cornelius Primus, a young gladiator and street fighter caught up in the dramatic events unfolding as Rome descends into civil war and chaos. I was born in Scotland in 1977 and always enjoyed studying history – well, the interesting bits, not so much what they taught us in school. My first book in the Forest Lord series, Wolf’s Head, was set in medieval England and it’s a fast-paced, violent retelling of the Robin Hood legends.By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. On a single day at Rome’s famous Colosseum, 3,000 men fought; on another, 9,000 animals were slaughtered. I was a master of make-believe by age ten, and when the time was right, both passions fused into my debut novel, also set in Ancient Rome. The reader will discover that fact is not only stranger than fiction, it is often more entertaining. The first book in the beloved Mark of the Lion series, A Voice in the Wind brings readers back to the first century and introduces them to a character they will never forget―Hadassah.

If you think Star Wars was pretty good, but that maybe Darth Vader is the unappreciated hero… Empire of Silence is the book for you.

When high-born Vita’s father is murdered in Roman Londinium, Vita is forced to disguise herself as a slave at the gladiator’s arena. Meanwhile, his master Julius Caesar wants Marcus to help destroy the bands of rebel slaves and their leader Brixus, who plans to unite a slave army and resurrect the cause of Spartacus. The Emperor Marcus Aurelius wanted to change the way of government of Rome for republic, and Maximus will be the protector for Rome.

She escapes with her life – only to end up a slave, sharing a cell with a fierce gladiator, Brea, and her wolf. The book is 700 plus pages and covers some of my favorite sci-fi romance tropes: alien abduction, space opera, and alien gladiator. A lot better, as this is one of the most moving books I’ve ever read, bringing me to tears in places.Hour by hour, we follow various Romans as they go about their day, seeing many different jobs and possible fates ahead for a whole cast of characters. Director Ridley Scott ( Blade Runner, Thelma and Louise, Alien) brings the glorious battles of the ancient Roman arena back to the big screen. Marcus is determined to find his father's old commander, Pompeius the Great, to seek justice for his family and set his mother free.

All of my romances feature a lead or leads of color and I'm particularly drawn to books where I can identify myself in the heroines.

Maximus is a loyal and brave soldier, betrayed by Commodus, his life destroyed, but determined to have revenge on the man responsible for the death of his family. One thought had been kept Maximus alive: that he would finally meet and kill the man he had hated the most - the new Emperor, Commodus. Abducted from Earth and transported to a slave planet in an unknown galaxy, Lumen finds herself, shackled, naked and put on display before an alien horde. The story was retitled "Legend", although the covers of the first two issues include a large blurb saying "Inspired by Philip Wylie's Gladiator". You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot!
