About this deal

The entire story unfolds on the same small stretch of ground, where each new detail is integral to the scene at hand. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Ellis' precise and detailed illustrations of bespectacled bugs and an elaborate fort utterly beguile.

Here's a bright, refined fantasy world to be lost in, and one that has its dark, seasonal drama to boot.Attention is firmly focused on the set, cleverly built from a suitcase and table with a rolling canvas backdrop.

Polly Crosby tells ReadingZone about her novel, This Tale is Forbidden (Scholastic), a fractured fairy tale set in a dystopian world. If working at an office location and you are not "logged in", simply close and relaunch your preferred browser.

A tiny shoot unfolds and begins to grow, as ants, beetles and damselflies look on in wonder and imagine what it is, and all the while a caterpillar lies still in his cocoon, oblivious to the changes happening around him. Every time we read this book we discover new things and I feel that it is teaching my child about nature and discovery, feelings, loss and rebirth.

With minimal text and crisp images, Ellis’s book is deceptively simple, but don’t be fooled; this whimsical story requires a close reading to truly absorb all its subtle delights. The made up language makes us laugh and we are now fluent in ‘bug’ the storytelling is wonderful and will really help develop those little imaginations.I haven't used it with pupils yet but will, we will work it all out together and it will help our decoding skills. With gorgeous, exquisitely-detailed illustration that will appear to children and art-lovers alike, and a wonderfully playful invented language, we soon find ourselves speaking "Bug" .
