The Blacktongue Thief was one of my favorite fantasy novels of the last few years - epic in scope, funny, and nail-bitingly tense. If everybody’s wearing clean linen and silk and looking down at you squirming in your bassinet, you’ll have a very different life than if the first thing you see when you open your eyes is a billy goat. Kinch Na Shannack is one of the most sarcastic and snarky narrators one will ever meet and I delighted in his every discription. We follow the action in The Blacktoungue Thief in the first-person perspective through the eyes of Kinch as he is relaying the tale at a later date. Walked off with it while a mate argued with a music student about whether his singing at a tavern had been in key.
