About this deal

The wide design makes it one for side-sleepers but at 119cm in length, it’s suitable for shorter sleepers more than tall. Thankfully I bought it as extra cushioning to go on top of a single air bed for which it does add comfort for a side sleeper but I wouldn't have bought it for wild camping as an only protection from sleeping on the ground.

I first gave it an outing when we went to the Long Mynd (Church Stretton, Shropshire) in February, where we ended up pitching in the snow and it got down to a toasty -2 degrees inside the tent. It gave my entire body plenty of support in different positions, and my hip didn’t dig into the ground when I was on my side. ULTRA-LIGHTWEIGHT - For the thru-hiker or wild camper the Berghaus Peak Self-Inflating Mat is a lightweight, compact and easy to use mat which uses a diamond cut foam to assure a good nights rest no matter the terrain or the temperature. Practical non-slip silicone grips on the rear ensure you don’t slip during the night, working with a diamond cut foam inner to get a more restful night’s sleep. We've previously taken air beds that you have to pump up, but they don't provide very even support; these somehow do. We can’t talk about how good (or bad) a piece of kit is without have taken it out into the field and testing it properly first. It’s such a pain having to wrestle something back into it’s bag at the end of a camp, no problems here. I could never get the pressure in my one just right, it was always either too hard or too soft, added to that it smelt of rubber and it rocked when I rolled over.

PS - I use a Multimat Comfort XL which being a closed cell mat doesn't need blowing up (and can never be punctured). There will be some products that are amazing quality and packed full of additional features or specifications, but do take the time to really get an idea if you need that level of quality or if your budget and needs mean you should get something else. If you don't want to have any anxiety about your mattress deflating whilst hiking, I think you should then seriously about Richard's view. Not a mat but a lightweight sleeping option nonetheless, this lounger makes a great temporary bed for a few nights in the great outdoors. Details: Boasting a minimal size and a lighter weight, the Peak Compact Self-Inflating Mat from Berghaus offers maximum comfort for short expeditions or multi-day hikes.

Read more about the condition New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging is applicable). It also had an outing near the Wyre Forest (Bewdley) in early March, where it was a slightly warmer 3 degrees overnight. If you have a blow-up mattress of any kind, it's always something that could happen to you, just make sure you carry repair patches with you. With a quick release push valve to easily inflate, you can sit back and relax while your bed makes itself.
