Cara Hunter has a very unique writing style for the main characters and the added bonus of so much mixed media in her books. Although I have followed the series from the off and am aware of the backstories of Fawley and his team there is more than enough drip-fed information for new readers to gain an overview of the team, including the DI’s marital woes, Acting DS Chris ‘Gis’ Gislingham’s friction with the newly demoted DC Gareth Quinn and their individual domestic set-ups. It could be read as a standalone novel, but to get most out of the characters, I recommend starting at the beginning, and believe me Close to Home and In the Dark are just as worthy as this one. The one thing I wish, though, is that there was a US release date for this book and the next in the series.

I have a boy cat who does his best to distract me whenever I get close to a keyboard (if you have cats, you'll know), I love travelling, spending time with friends, and I have never knowingly turned down a glass of champagne.This leaves his police team, led by Acting DS Chris Gislingham, demoted DC Quinn, DC Erica Somer, DC Verity Everett and others to play the primary and pivotal role in this most harrowing of investigations. Though Fawley was a little off his game in this book, he still was a really likable and capable character.

After only just reading “ In the dark” by Cara Hunter I was delighted, no let’s be honest I was over the moon to get the opportunity to review this book from Netgalley in exchange for a copy. My rich homie qualm is sometimes she can go OTT in the end or "Sharon Bolton it", but this one kept its shit together rather nicely. While No Way Out and its predecessors are essentially police procedurals, Hunter takes an extra step and allows us to look at the investigation from a number of different angles. Sin duda, este es el mejor libro de la saga, ya que primero hay que leer ¿Quién se ha llevado Daisy Mason? te vuelve a sorprender con una nueva pieza en ese puzle donde no sabrás muy bien donde encajarla hasta tener todo el conjunto bien formado. Slowly the team begin to piece together a picture of the couples life, their marriage and family dynamics, and it's almost voyeuristic as we soon discover how Samantha was struggling with the effects of post-natal depression, a case of sibling jealousy from 10 year old Matty towards 3 year old Zachary, and Michael is not without his own fair share of problems, professional, personal and financial, that he was struggling to deal with.

Highly recommended but do start with the first book in the series as they refer back to previous cases. I found it a more effective impact to create the impression that major and essential information was driven from a news source or police report. Cara Hunter's brilliant DI Adam Fawley is one of the best continuing crime series out there, her simple but effective way of including newspaper headlines and various reports throughout the investigation gives a real time feel to the narrative - that helps keep the mystery so addictive. She goes above and beyond when drafting report excerpts, blogs, transcripts, etc to create an authentic feel for the reader.There are some surprising and not so surprising twists but, in the end, it is a tragic stor6y which should have ended quite differently (for the characters, not the author).
