About this deal

Mechanicky to připomíná klávesnici od Apple a je to po zácviku dost dobře hratelné, rozhodně lépe, než třeba "klávesy" na MicroFreaku. I followed the instructions and paired the keyboard with my iPad Pro and received a warning from garage band that there may be some latency.

In practice, once I started using my Xkey37 model, I found that my “I'm not really a great keyboardist” playing actually improved! This means that the market is still open to a high quality BLE MIDI portable keyboard, and the XKey Air fits the bill. edit] The latency and connectivity issues have now been resolved so I've upgraded the rating from 1 to 3 stars. You can tell whether a page is secure as 'https' will replace the 'http' at the front of the kennysmusic. However, it’s a decent function for players with spider fingers or those looking to use one hand on the keyboard and the other to fiddle with the function buttons – and let’s not forget that sustain can be found on most software. Octave switching and sustain are handled with matching switch styles, with the latter falling conveniently under the right-hand little finger without too much of a stretch and much easier to get used to than I imagined.

Using an unsecured network in a public place can be risky as unauthorised people may try to intercept anything you're doing online. The short, less than 3mm key travel, and an action that results in the keys depressing in exactly the same way no matter where you press along their length, means you can get around the keys very quickly.

I disliked its miniature keys, but I couldn't find any iOS-compatible keyboards with full- size keys to replace it. In fact it’s incredibly lightweight, making it transportation-ready and easy enough to slot in wherever space is a problem. if so you probably know its a really cool thing, and/but is a completely different feel/experience than conventional keys controller. I opted for the larger three-octave Xkey37, but they also make the original, two-octave, 25-key Xkey, which should fit in any gig bag, backpack, or courier bag.And since I had to add the faders outside of it anyway, it ended up being more clunky, than alternatives that actually play better. For someone who is used to playing piano or weighted keyboards the Xkey can feel a little strange and take some getting used to, especially since everything is very flat with the black keys only slightly elevated above the white. Not only that but annoying constantly flashing LED's notifying me it can't connect via bluetooth (how do I turn this off? The spacing and depth of Xkey's keys mirror those of a piano, but the height of each key is lower (meaning less travel too), and there are gaps between the keys. For someone who has travelled a lot, the fact that it’s USB powered is always a bonus – power supplies can really add to the bulk so the less items to carry the better.

Obviously, I’m not the only person to have felt this because CME have now launched the Xkey37, which, in addition to an extra octave’s worth of keys, also features a detachable multi-function ‘Xcable’ connector that offers a traditional MIDI output and connections for both sustain and expression pedals. It comes with a funky orange USB cable, but needs a USB camera kit to be connected to an iPad or iPhone. I am an advanced amateur in classical piano and I already have an acoustic piano and a digital piano. After trying many different small/portable keyboards I ended up with the Korg Microkey which, even though it has smaller keys, offers a much superior playability (and already has the wheels and sustain support). The immediacy of being able to use the Xkey Air within seconds and with no wires is both liberating and incredibly pleasing.

Using it in a static installation, however, it doesn’t take long before you start hankering after another octave, if only to be able to get your bass notes further away from the rest of your chord voicings.
