About this deal

pyogenic granuloma – small, bright red nodules that often develop after an injury, tend to bleed easily and are often removed Allergic reactions can cause hives, which look like a red, bumpy, itchy rash. Hives usually go away on their own.

Hives can itch or sting. Typically, the individual marks last less than 24 hours, though more can continue to appear. Urticaria vs. Angioedema Plaque: A lesion that is raised like a papule, greater than 1–2 centimeters (0.4 to 0.8 inch) in size. It is solid, rough, and flat-topped. Acne develops when the pores in the skin are clogged with dead skin cells and the skin’s natural oil, called sebum. Bacteria can also get into the clogged pore, inflaming the lesions. Skin lesions can be present from birth or develop over your lifetime due to sun exposure, bacteria, allergies, or chronic conditions. They can vary in appearance and may or may not be cancerous. Humans with brain lesions are often the subjects of research with the goal of establishing the function of the area where their lesion occurred.

Kids Definition

When the skin is injured, a watery liquid called serum leaks into the damaged area from the surrounding tissue. This can form a bubble in the skin called a blister.

Shave excision is a technique used for raised lesions or lesions in the upper layer of skin. A provider will remove all or part of the lesion using a small blade. Stitches are usually not necessary. Brain lesions may help researchers understand brain function. Research involving lesions relies on two assumptions: that brain damage can affect different aspects of cognition independently, and that a locally damaged brain functions identically to a normal brain in its "undamaged" parts. [6] Your doctor or nurse will give you specific advice relating to the type of procedure you've had. They may also ask you to: Lesion size may be specified as gross, meaning it is visible to the unaided eye, or histologic, meaning a microscope is needed to see it. [4] [5] A space-occupying lesion, as the name suggests, has a recognizable volume and may impinge on nearby structures, whereas a non space-occupying lesion is simply a hole in the tissue, e.g. a small area of the brain that has turned to fluid following a stroke. [1]

Lesions are often classified by their tissue types or locations. For example, a "skin lesion" or a " brain lesion" are named for the tissue where they are found. If there is an added significance to regions within the tissue—such as in neural injuries where different locations correspond to different neurological deficits—they are further classified by location. For example, a lesion in the central nervous system is called a central lesion, and a lesion in the peripheral nervous system is called a peripheral lesion. [1] A myocardial lesion results from damage to the heart muscle, and a coronary lesion is a subtype that describes a lesion in the coronary arteries. Coronary lesions are then further classified according to the side of the heart that is affected and the diameter of the artery in which they form. [2] Cause and behavior [ edit ] Freezing off lesions with liquid nitrogen can be used for actinic and seborrhoeic keratoses, warts and skin tags. Your doctor applies liquid nitrogen to the area for around 10 seconds, using either cotton wool or a spray. A blister forms after the treatment. It dries up to form a scab, which falls off one to two weeks later (sometimes longer). Scooping away (curettage) Practice good wound care. Wash with soap and water and bandage with sterile petrolatum gauze. Apply silicone gel or silicone sheets to freshly healed scars.
