About this deal

Cued Articulation describes how to cue consonant sounds while Cued Vowels describes the 23 standard English vowel sounds. The previously separate titles Cued Articulation and Cued Vowels are now combined and updated, with this edition covering consonants, vowels, demonstrative images and full colour coding throughout. I use it most for word final sound discrimination; you let the child try on their own, but if they can’t quite hear the sound I model the word again but sign the final sound. Cued Articulation was originally devised to help severely speech and language handicapped children to see a sound and hear a letter by the use of easy and logical hand cues.

The afternoon part of the training focuses on the Cued Articulation Approach which can be used within settings and classrooms to support children presenting with speech sound difficulties. They are easy to learn and help children with auditory processing difficulties to "see" the difference between similarly sounding, paired voiced and unvoiced letter sounds e.The hand movements are logical – each hand movement represents one sound and the cue gives clues as to how and where the sound is produced. This will allow SfYC to raise an Internal Supplier Request for the school to complete and make payment. Cued Articulation can be used for individuals, pairs and small groups and also as an adjunct to basic literacy work in whole-class teaching.

Hampshire schools should submit this online booking request to book a place, remembering to include the contact name and SAP user-id of the finance/business officer. If the child forgets their target sound you can say the word and sign their sound, which often makes them have another try at the word! For us it is essential to explore phonics through listening and visual support, this ensures that the children understand that each letter has a name and a sound, and that we can listen for the sounds in words. So we support the use of phonics with a visual cue that cues our children to our lips, so while they are listening they are watching how these sounds are formed at the mouth and supporting the development of their lip reading skills as well as their phonics. I didn't realise these were flash cards, but are excellent as an addtional resource to support cued articulation and have used them with considerable success to support speech and language in the primary classroom.Children often miss out some of the consonants in the middle of longer words, so you can sign the ones they miss out.

I never directly ask a child to use the signs, but find many children enjoy them and naturally copy them.find Cued Articulation such a practical resource for people with a wide range of communication difficulties. There were no significant differences between groups on measures relating to phonics knowledge and attitudes towards learning. I also find that it is an easy way to encourage the child to look at your face without directly asking them.

The study measured the effect of the intervention on children’s phonics knowledge, word-reading ability and attitudes towards learning. Cued Articulation and Cued Vowels are two companion texts written by Jane Passy to help teach the pronunciation of spoken English. The systematic literature review examines the effect of multisensory phonics instruction on children’s word-recognition skills. Participants were 154 children, aged four to five years, attending a mainstream setting in the South-East of England. As tutors become familiar with the system they will realise how useful CA is, and in how many situations it can be used. The book can be used with the interactive Cued Articulation DVD (interactive whiteboard compatible), which supports the program through demonstration of the cues and sounds. Visualising phonics in this way helps the child understand where the sound is made, the shape of the lips as you say the sound, the type of articulation and if the sound is voiced of unvoiced, you will notice some actions use one finger or two fingers. I know one school that have adopted Cued Articulation instead of the jolly phonics actions as they find it so useful.
