About this deal

Battery life is the biggie. It’s now unusual to get an old-school NiMH battery that runs out in less than two weeks and takes most of a day to charge, but they still exist. More modern lithium-ion batteries will give you two to four weeks of brushing – or more – without a recharge, and will take anywhere between three and 12 hours to reach full capacity. Plus, while you don’t get all the extra brushes or charging glass of the flagship model, it does still come with a handy USB charging case, making this a fantastic toothbrush for both home and travel. It’s still not what you might call cheap, but it’s a premium brush at a price you might find easier to swallow. I want to love it, but I’m not sure I do, as the head is quite wide which makes it hard to reach all the nooks and crannies - although it has been streamlined from the ISSA 2. It has a huge range of 16 different speed settings, although they’re not separated into dedicated ‘modes’ as such, and I actually found that 16 is too many. It has an interval timer, which prompts you to move to a different area of your mouth every 30 seconds for a thorough clean, but again no pressure sensor. This unique electric toothbrush is from FOREO, a brand that usually makes high-tech face brushes. It has a similar ‘beauty tech’ vibe, with a smooth silicone handle and curvy design (two times stronger silicone than the previous version). It’s very simple to set up and use, and has an unbelievably long battery life of 365 days per charge (no, I don’t quite know how that works, either – but it’s true. I’ve never had to charge it). That makes it a great toothbrush for travel. Oscillating toothbrushes feature rotating and pulsating round brush heads that can rotate up to ~8,000 times per minute, depending on the model. While they're slower in this department, oscillating toothbrushes benefit from the rotating head, which is fantastic for fighting plaque.

Slim, sonic and sustainable, that’s the Suri toothbrush in a nutshell. It was born out of frustration at the four million electric toothbrushes which end up in landfill per year thanks to unrecyclable plastic parts. Suri’s answer? A sturdy aluminium frame, plant-based cornstarch heads, and castor oil bristles. The brush is powered by sonic pulse technology that cleans at a maximum of 11,000 pulsations per minute. The head is made of silicone and PBT polymer bristles, which are now super flexible, which gives it a very different feel to other toothbrushes. Unlike the others, you’re supposed to use it like a regular toothbrush, scrubbing up and down and in circles rather than holding it against the teeth. If you want to save some money, you’re not restricted to the manufacturer’s own heads. A few smaller, third-party manufacturers make Sonicare- or Oral-B-compatible brush heads, which usually sell for much less than the real deal. Philips and Oral-B will tell you that you’re not getting the same quality or clean from these cheaper heads, but in our tests some have been perfectly effective.Sometimes, the more simple something is, the more effective it can be. The Philips One is a great example of this. There’s a common misconception with whitening teeth,” Dr Edwards-Lunn says. “All the on-shelf products won’t whiten your teeth, they will reduce the amount of stain on your teeth: these are ‘extrinsic stains’, on the outside of the teeth, from food, drinks and cigarettes. I have a multi-travel adaptor bought at an airport that accepts my UK bathroom plug without problem. But I also have 2 different ones that will not accept it, but they will accept the Euro-plug.(these are the large adaptors that can be used for multiple countries by extending different pin configurations out of the body The electric toothbrush has a receiver coil in it that absorbs the energy from the electromagnetic field and converts it into electrical current to recharge the battery. How Can I Charge My Philips Sonicare Without a Charger? Irrespective of brand if you left it on charge for 24 hours, it would be fully charged by the end of it.

This is a good question and one I have often thought about myself. Including an adapter in the box would be a nice addition. Choosing the best electric toothbrush could make a tangible difference to your general health as well as giving you a better smile. Research into brushing teeth, published in 2016, found that good dental health could slow down the progression of Alzheimer’s and that gum disease can speed up mental decline. Dentists generally recommend brushing with an electric toothbrush over a manual model. If you do want to really try and gain the absolute maximum from the battery, it is best to charge it fully and then discharge it almost entirely (not completely), down to say approximately 20% then recharge it. An electric toothbrush is a great tool to have in your oral care arsenal. But what do you do when the charger is lost or misplaced? Is it still possible to use an electric toothbrush without a charger? It is very detailed and legally correct description of why we have 2 pin plugs on electric toothbrushes. Read our full Oclean X Pro Elite review Electric toothbrush FAQs How to choose the best electric toothbrush for you When a brush has removable batteries, you are not charging the brush. This is a term that applies only to those with batteries built into the brush handle.

What you may need as well though is a plug adapter. This is to convert the 2 pin adapter found on most charging stands in the UK to work with the power supply in the USA. Intrinsic stains within the teeth, by contrast, are down to age or genetics. Dentists can perform tooth-whitening procedures on intrinsic stains. Using an electric toothbrush will not remove intrinsic stains, but will reduce the likelihood of adding extrinsic stains.” If you specifically want a bamboo toothbrush that comes with a travel case, The Truth Brush could be an option, but is is slightly more expensive. Gums recede for lots of reasons,” Dr Edwards-Lunn says. “Patients can be susceptible to it, or they can sometimes brush too hard. They can have past problems with gum disease, which could have caused it. And they can have a thin biotype of gum, where it’s a genetic thing.

Whilst the Oral-B original parts are recommended, we are aware that there are many similar or compatible products made by other companies. Therefore in addition to Oral-B’s own accessories, we have included a number of carefully selected accessories from third party brands. The benefit in most cases tends to be price. Brush heads I really hope all of the above is helpful to you and has answered any questions you may have had about 2 pin plugs and adapters required for electric toothbrushes and similar products like shavers. Don’t forget to consider whether you need to take a spare brush head with you, might it be time to change your brush head whilst you travel. Travelling internationally with an electric toothbrush Contoured grips on the handle make this easy to hold and small touches like the raised notches on the handle stop this from rolling on a countertop. Do I need a voltage convertor? Yes if the voltage of the country you are travelling to is less than 220V
