On July 22, 2013, the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) certified the album seven-times platinum; [25] by August 2020, it had sold 2,335,495 copies in the UK. Many of the tracks were originally recorded as demos, which the band decided to keep for their spontaneity. And now, the resulting Hot Fuss drops on both sides of the Atlantic wrapped in this tabloid backstory, unable to separate its hype from its unabashedly referential sound.

The album was recorded at various points throughout 2003 with Jeff Saltzman in Berkeley, California, with the exception of "Everything Will Be Alright", which was recorded by Corlene Byrd in guitarist Dave Keuning's apartment.The Killers might hail from one of the USA's most quintessentially American cities (Las Vegas), but their debut album Hot Fuss displays an Anglophilic streak that is an ocean wide. It's pressed much too quietly, I have to crank my system all the way up to get it to the volume I want to hear it at. But it can afford this bit of honesty, since the British music press has shouldered the load of attendant Killers hyperbole, and because the band's Hot Fuss checks most of its truths at the door to their 800-foot limo. It revels in its appearance as The Shit from day one, allowing for filler-type indulgences like the impossibly aimless-- and quite possibly shitty-- "Everything Will Be Alright". Perhaps someday a decent pressing will emerge, but until then, this one is definitely a shelf dust collector.

My box set was bought used at Amoeba Records about 8 years ago with no warping and little to no scruffs.

Sounds like it was sourced from my mid-2000s Limewire mp3 downloads (I also bought the CD at the time, though I think that sounded slightly better than whatever this is). I played a whole side, switching between this lp and the cd, clinging to a hope that the vinyl would sound better, but I could detect no difference. This is not a record to demonstrate how great vinyl can sound and that all comes down to the dynamic range of the mix and master.The long-player is very rare on LP and was only ever issued as a limited blue vinyl and a similarly limited seven-inch (black) vinyl box set.
