About this deal

This was my first Jo Nesbø book and I enjoyed most of his stories and his dark humour and plot twists. His Harry Hole novel's are meant to be excellent so I look forward to diving into them one day. The officer sits with head bowed. As though he’s the one confessing to murder by poison rather than me. Don’t apologise, it’s nice when someone cares. Far too few do. We’re so terrified of anything upsetting and sad.’ In the five short stories focusing on power, Nesbø includes the dystopian tale of ‘Rat Island’ which features anarchy after a devastating pandemic. ‘The Cicadas’ includes time travel as well.

Review: The Jealousy Man and Other Stories by Jo Nesbo Review: The Jealousy Man and Other Stories by Jo Nesbo

The good thing about Twist is the wrapping,’ I say. ‘That you can change your mind. You can wrap it up again without anyone’s being able to see it’s been opened. Unlike most other things. Confessions, for example. Once a confession has been so to speak unwrapped then that’s it, it’s too late.’ Is there anything Nesbø can't write? Like seriously, I'm obsessed with his Harry Hole series, loved every standalone he's written and damnn these short stories were amazing. The book opens up with London, and it's definitely a story that leaves you satisfied, yet wanting more(in a good way). And I also know that murder is bound to look bad for me as the scorned husband. It gives me a motive. I could have come to see her, I knew where she kept the poison, I could have slipped it into her coffee and then left. I imagine that’s why you’ve been to my place, to see if there’s a match between any of my clothes and the fibres you found here in Simone’s house.’I should have taken the coffee table. Because I like this coffee table. I like the small dents on its surface, souvenirs of our wild parties, the paint splashes from the time I decided to paint everything in the living room green, and the one leg that was ever so slightly crooked from the first and only time we ever made love on it.

The Jealousy Man - Jo Nesbo

But of course, statistics don’t mean much when you’re afraid,’ I added. ‘I say this because I know exactly how you feel.’ I'm Kristin. I always have a book with me wherever I go! I am married and have two chocolate labs - Maddie and Chloe. In addition to reading, I also enjoy yoga and walking - I am a big audio fan and love listening to audio books while out walking!Jo Nesbo is not a new-to-me author as I am slowly making my way through his Harry Hole series. I have also read a few of his stand-alones and really liked them, so when I heard he had a collection of short stories coming out, I knew I had to read them. I’ve really come to enjoy reading short stories recently and had to see what spin Nesbo would put on them. In this thrilling new collection the master of crime delivers a gripping, edge-of-your seat read that you won't be able to put down. You could say that the parents should understand that people who have paid extra to sit here do so because they need the sleep. Maybe they’re going straight to work, or they have a meeting first thing in the morning.’ The city is a watering hole on the savannah where animals of every kind congregate; apart from the handful of herbivores so large they’ve got no need to worry, most of us are hunters, prey or scavengers. We live in a symbiotic relationship of fear from which none of us can escape…Redemption comes only when you do what you have to do to survive...Survival...is in the final analysis dependent on our ability to learn the qualities of mercy, wisdom and forgiveness.” OK. So that wasn’t exactly true. I was jealous of Henrik Bakke. At least the first time I met him. Let me explain. One day he called me at my office and asked if we could meet, he had some papers for me from Simone. I knew these must be the divorce papers, and even though it was, of course, unspeakable of her to use her new lover to deliver them I was curious to know who he was and so I agreed to a meeting at a restaurant. I presume he was just as curious about me.

The Jealousy Man and Other Stories by Jo Nesbø | Goodreads

Jo Nesbø is one of my favourite authors and the quality of his writing is apparent in many of these but not all in my opinion. I definitely prefer his full length novels all of which I highly rate. However, this is very different collection with some unusual plots and so if you enjoy short stories then you may like this. The officer looks as though he might be preparing a response, a long and complex response that’s going to require a lot of thought. I continue. The investigating officer sits in an armchair facing me, and the notebook lies untouched on the table in front of him.

It's not a bad book but it was very tiring. There were lots and lots of paragraphs with so much going on. From the two sections, I liked the first, the second made me a bit dazed. The power wasn't my cup of tea.
