About this deal

I saw this book and the cover immediately pulled me in (I am a cover lover after all), after checking the blurb, I knew I just had to get this book, and I did.

The Bolds to the Rescue – The Bolds The Bolds to the Rescue – The Bolds

Their clothes and belongings left on the river bank enable two enterprising hyenas to take their places. Lee Lyford’s energetic direction keeps the play moving at a pace that quickly papers over its flaws and the genius of its sound design (Dinah Mullen) ensures a stream of laughter, even when the frenzy of joke-telling and screeching laughter loses its lustre. Join Mr and Mrs Bold and their twins Betty and Bobby as they navigate work, school and friends whilst trying to keep up their disguise. The Musical in London has released new production photography of the new cast of bohemians and aristocrats, at the Piccadilly Theatre. It’s tricky behaving like a human, but they successfully keep their difference secret until one day Mr McNumpty, their grumpy neighbour finds out, and starts to keep an eye on them and their human friend, Minnie. The nosy neighbor however keeps them on their toes, as he suspects something is very strange about them. It takes a lot of effort to get things this simple and straightforward, especially in a piece of work that deals with big questions. She's also having fun being ET's specialist in children's theatre and puppetry, and being a Super Assessor for the Offies!

James Button's set is a metallic pastille and neon combination, and alongside Anna Watson's vibrant lighting and Natasha Harrison's over the top, campy choreography, it all works. They may find a couple of double meanings that pass over the youngsters’ heads and as things draw to a close there is just a hint of more in a budding bromance between Mr McNumpty and Uncle Tony (they get a repeat of a number together) but this is the children’s book Clary, not the caustic camp one. Yes, that's right - they're covered in fur, have tails tucked into their trousers, and they really, really like to laugh. Later, a trip to the safari park finds them in an action packed adventure to rescue an older hyena, Tony, in danger of being put to sleep. He has now adapted the first book in the series himself for the Unicorn Theatre’s Christmas show and, if the result is not entirely clean, wholesome entertainment (it’s recommended for six-years-plus) – there are an awful lot of references to bottoms, for one thing – it marks a pretty jolly start to the festive season.I was worried about how the story would go when certain things came to light, but she really surprised me. I think it’s fair to say we are all really ready for a bit of fun this Christmas, so get the family down to the Unicorn to enjoy laughs aplenty, and a good old-fashioned sing-song with the Bolds.
