About this deal

The DA-9 seems to get distorted at 50 watts... maybe the graphic is for 8 ohms? Certainly it would have quite a bit more room to "breathe" To ensure that the A30 will have enough power to run all these features, it comes bundled with an external 24V/2.1A switch mode power supply. This also saves some space both internally and at the rear of the device. I/O Acoustic instruments are similarly detailed which allows guitars and pianos to have a firmly planted fundamental, however, the edginess is similarly blunted.

When it comes to speaker pairings, the more energetic nature of the A30 has to be taken into account. My go-to pairing for class D amplifiers is my Wharfedale Diamond 9.4, but surprisingly it didn’t pan out the way I hoped it would. The warmer character of the 9.4 doubled down on the warmer bass character on the A30, which resulted in having an overpowering bass response. I calculated the volume at my listening position and even at 6 ohms, 20 watts i would get 100 DBa - but no clue if that's even loud enough. Despite having an amplification stage the D30 is primarily marketed as a DAC. Inside, Loxjie has gone with the ESS 9068AS DAC implementation with a second-generation XMOS USB controller with a decoding capability of up to 32BIT/768kHz PCM, DSD 512, and MQA.The performance of desktop power amplifiers has been disappointing. Often the power is very low and distortion and noise quite high. Until now, I have not had any that I would recommend strongly. Well all that changed with the Loxjie A30. This is an attractive, solid performance with excellent measured and subjective sound quality. Inclusion of a USB DAC and Coax/Toslink input eliminates the need for a DAC for less clutter. It can easily replace a sound bar (using Toslink input from TV) and make for a great secondary system. 40 watts into 4 ohm with very low distortion and noise is plenty good for desktop use.

However, the DA-9 has a full balanced input option, thus it also has a completely balanced internal circuit. The power output of both units is similar though, with the DA-9 putting out 10W more at 90W into 4Ω. These days, I’ve come to associate the Loxjie brand with products that have plenty of features at a very competitive price point. Recently, we’ve had the privilege to take a closer look at their D30, which we found to be a versatile compact desktop DAC/Amp with sensible features that make it a great desktop control center. If you stream TIDAL, the Loxjie D30 is one of a few Full MQA decoders. That means you can play MQA CDs or MQA files via digital SPDIF or coaxial input without the need of any software like Roon or Tidal.Although there is a headphone amplifier section on the D30, there isn’t an option to bypass the internal DAC on the D30. Aside from the headphone output, the D30 also has an option for single-ended outputs available at the rear. Controls As speaker amplifiers, both the DA-9 and the A30 use the same internal class D amplifier with both of them being equipped with Infineon 12070 chips, they also have the same NJW1194 volume controller.
