About this deal

After the discovery of the dead man, Ryan and Frank arrive, find the local police in disarray, and they feel the wrath of Ryan's tongue. When the water at Lady’s Well turns red and the residents of Holystone start to become unwell it is not long before what may have been the actions of a protest group become a murder investigation.

With Denise threatening anyone and everyone in the building to not let Frank have any treats as he’s supposed to be on a diet, the wily ways of the two of them is something to behold. OTHER BOOKS FROM LJ ROSS Did you know LJ Ross has written several other bestselling series of books?I found Ross's writing irritating at times, and I'm not sure if it's because I am unfamiliar with the series and its idiosyncrasies, but there were a few things that grated on me, personally. Accusations abound in the small close-knit community, and ‘old’ religions spar against ‘new’ while fear runs like wildfire through the streets. Favourite songs: Sweet Caroline (Neil Diamond); Rhinestone Cowboy (Glenn Campbell); Big River (Jimmy Nail); Friday I’m in Love (The Cure); Get it On (T. Weirdly, Ross seemed more interested in mocking environmental activists and veganism, which seem to be less about the characters' opinions and more about Ross's own thoughts on these matters. The 20th in the sequence (I am a fan and have read them all) and if it was the premier league it’d be about 15th - safe from relegation but certainly no where near some if the excellent books in this series.

The plot, the treatment of the characters, the style, the language have little in common with all the other books of the series. As ever the Ryan/Frank combo often brings a lightness to the investigations as their banter can’t help but bring a smile to your face, especially when Frank is still dressed as Uncle Fester when they turn up at the crime scene.J. Ross's description of the settings of Lady's Well, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot. Lady’s Well is probably one of new favourites in the series with plenty of twists that had me hooked. My heart went out to Melanie Yates and Jack Lowerson, both trusted and valued members of the team and so much baggage, will they get through this difficult time?

There were several long and very didactic paragraphs about (supposedly) the characters opinions on these topics. DCI Ryan’s North East Ever thought of retracing the footsteps of DCI Ryan and DS Phillips in the North East of England? Louise is a keen philanthropist, and is pleased to have supported numerous non-profit programmes in addition to founding several of her own, including the Lindisfarne Reading Challenge and the Lindisfarne Prize for Debut Crime Fiction.

Granted, I haven't read the rest of the series, but from this he seemed quite a tedious person whose best features were just a happy coincidence, and that said little about his character (does he have one? Not that I don’t like the characters I do but everything feels so settled and nice like an old cardigan. Jonathan Keeble, as always, brought the main, much-loved, characters to life which is what made me keep listening. We work closely with publishers and authors to ensure that we offer the best books on the market for your child. Lady's Well" (the 20th book in her DCI Ryan series) is available in ebook format now, with paperback and audio formats coming soon!

Also, there were a few times where the author seemed to be complementing herself on her own humour, or deliberately setting up a joke only for it to be a bit crap. I have a feeling all will be revealed in the next one, which I will still read as I am invested in the characters now. So many phrases that just grated because yes, they do the job, but isn't there a fresher way to say them?
