Is the Aux/3.5mm connection passive? Will it work like a normal headset without the unit being powered on? Our unit has phase mismatch, and this may be due to the complex nature of the drivers themselves. It's also possible that you may experience this with your own unit, but we don't know how widespread or isolated this issue is or if you'll notice mismatch if your unit is affected. With up to 80 hours battery life, the Maxwell’s last twice as long as many rivals. What’s more, a full recharge via USB-C takes just 2 hours, with 25% charge available in just 20 minutes. The included USB transmitter is a small, rectangular USB-C adapter with an indicator LED on the face and a PC-console switch on the side. A USB-C-to-USB-A cable is included if you don’t have any free USB-C ports, though the headset doesn’t come with a 3.5mm cable.The bass is boomy when it needs to be and the sub-bass is colossal. Gunshots, explosions & footsteps are more realistic than ever before. There are actual textural details that can be heard (and felt!) with said impacts, explosions and things such as your character interacting with inanimate objects. Thank goodness Audeze opted for a nice dark gray finish, although I do wish it had done a better job with that coat of paint. Sadly, the paint on the aluminum band and yoke is easily scratched off. If you so much as accidentally brush the headset against a hard surface like a wall, that nice finish will come off. This, on top of its size and weight, makes me think this does not belong anywhere else outside of your gaming space – despite the fact that the mic is removable, and it comes with Bluetooth connectivity for mobile devices.

The bass is accurate enough that you can hear all the sub-bass elements well. Though the bass goes deep, it’s worth noting that it is quieter than other neutral headphones and gaming headsets. It’s got a wider frequency range, yes, but it does not have a lot of oomph. As a result, explosions in games, videos, and music do not hit that hard unless you turn the volume up to 90% or the content itself has a lot of sub-bass. As a single-player user these days, I prefer bassier than balanced, so for me, single-player gaming takes a hit as it’s clear these Maxwells were aimed more at online passive-aggressive players who require pinpointing sounds in the gaming world with as much accuracy as possible. Mids The following test groups have been updated following TB 1.6: Wired Connection, Bluetooth Connection, and Wireless Connection (Dongle). There have also been text changes made throughout the review, including to the usages and product comparisons to match these results. But there’s more to gaming headsets than being really, really... really ridiculously great-sounding. (A lot more, actually.)The wireless adapters are different depending on which gaming console you have, and they are not going to work with each other, so make sure you buy the right one for the console you have. Are the headsets cross compatible with the dongles (will PS dongle work on Xbox headset and vice versa)? In case you'd like to find a different option, the dimensions of the earcups are about 100mm, and the headphones are about 200mm tall. While we do not have an ETA, we do plan on providing a case option in the future.

We're confident in our phase response measurements, and we were able to eliminate our test setup as the cause of this mismatch. We've also learned from criticism regarding how we measure latency and found new ways to measure latency that align with how users will use and experience the product. Unique to Audeze, Fazor elements complement the magnetic structure by influencing sound waves. This enhanced control gives reduced distortion, better imaging, more accurate frequency extremes and an improved phase response. In short, it makes the Maxwell headphones the most lifelike sounding gaming headphones at their price.
