About this deal

Ya bass" is generally taken as Glasgow slang for "you bastard", though it has been proposed it could be the Gaelic war cry aigh bas meaning "battle and die". [7] Another Glasgow gang slogan was "Spur ya Bass" (this was the name of one of the two rival gangs from the Barrowfield area). [8] "Tongs Ya Bass" arguably became Glasgow's unofficial motto in the 1960s and 1970s. [9] In national elections in the 1920s/30s, Dennistoun was part of the Glasgow Camlachie parliamentary constituency. The Camlachie seat was composed of Dennistoun, east Gallowgate (Whitevale, Reidvale and Bellgrove) and Mile-End (including Barrowfield). The old Glasgow district of Mile-End was to the east of Abercromby Street in Calton, to the north of London Road in Bridgeton, to the south of Gallowgate and to the west of Barrowfield. Mile-End had more in common with Bridgeton and Calton than with Dennistoun. No clichés. No insult to your intelligence. Just a story, well told, superbly acted, and superbly shot. This film is a textbook on how to make a good drama. Just one of many superb films from the UK (another recent good one was The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner) that we've been deprived of over here until now. Early scenes serve to establish the family life of the MacLean's. Sometimes these seem rather idealistic, such as family gatherings and sing-songs. The singing seems to be a motif for happier times; it doesn't return until directly after Malky's death in a comical children's sing-a-long at a Saturday matinee. Although family life is not disregarded, never can adults successfully communicate with the youngsters. The attempts by an American uncle to have some influence over the boys is ineffectual, and the mother seems to have little control over them. Also there curiously seems to be no intervention by the police into the gang violence. Both gangs were enthralled in the violent action film lead by a ruthless crime family named the Red Dragon Tong.

The youngster's plan doesn't go well however when he accidentally shoots the leader of the gang, (played by Kevin Kidd) he wants to join and when into the bargain the artist brother also starts romancing the guy's girl-friend too, clearly there will be recriminations for the brothers down the line.A poem called King Billy was written about Billy Fullerton by the Glasgow poet Edwin Morgan in 1963. The night the hit on Sale is to be fulfilled, Lee suspects something sinister is going on and rushes to the port to save him. She ends up sacrificing herself to save Sale, who shoots her assassin down in front of dozens of onlookers. The Beggar takes advantage of this moment and incites a revolution against the Tong. The enraged crowd eventually reaches the headquarters of the Red Dragon Tong's Hong Kong division, wanting to kill its leader, Chung King. Before they can do so, Chung King immolates himself, hoping his ancestors will not be disappointed in him. Includem, who work with kids other groups have given up on, have seen offending drop by nearly half among the gang members they have helped.

Sale continues to investigate the Tong, who eventually kidnap and torture him, wanting to know what he knows. Sale is rescued by the Beggar, another member of the resistance. A beaten Sale is brought home to the care of Lee, who is developing feelings for him. While recovering, Sale starts a relationship with Lee.
