About this deal

Now, I see that Isayama may very well be a "good" artist, who happens to use a rough, apparently-unfinished style of drawing for creative purposes. At first, the nightmare appears to be a senseless series of violent images that don’t seem to mean anything in particular and the images we see are quite easy to forget about when you view them without any kind of context.

In this second, nearly 1k page collection, the mythos of the Titans (kaiju in the form of humans, ranging in largeness) deepens exponentially, with several members of Survey Corps coming out with secrets of their own.

Squad Levi attempts to attack Bertholdt with their Thunder Spears, but the Colossal's steam emission keeps them away.

Its body mass gives it overwhelming physical strength but to compensate this, its immense size makes its movements very slow. This is the point in the story where reveals are thrown at us without the grounding to properly contextualize them, either in their own right or as part of the author's slight of hand. With something so popular and huge, Kodansha Comics decided to put out a special version of the series: Colossal Edition, a behemoth of a book that collects five volumes into one. As Reiner's Armored Titan battles Eren's Titan, Bertholdt fights against the Scouts with a partially transformed Colossal Titan. The courtroom scenes were a rather interesting break from the action, though I fear they may set a standard to push this kinda-sorta low-brow series toward a false sense of intellectualism, as befell shit like Game of Thrones.Like I did with the first collection, I prefaced my review by saying I was already a huge fan of the show going into this, so for me there weren't any surprises story-wise. Maybe I was expecting some over-the-top Naruto shit, but I'm glad Isayama handled it with some "maturity. The panels don’t make the action and movement flow naturally, the way characters move comes across as awkward and musculature with how characters bend look strange.

Armin is Eren’s best friend and he fills Eren’s head with dreams of seeing the outside world beyond the walls, telling him stories of oceans, deserts, mountains, volcanoes and all sorts of things they could never imagine witnessing with their own eyes if they continue to spend the rest of their lives hiding in mundane safety behind the walls. Most of this book was one huge SPOILER ALERT for the show, as the episodes haven’t matched up with the chapters yet, but I still couldn’t stop reading! In normal circumstances, Titans emit steam from wounds, and their bodies evaporate completely into steam after receiving a killing blow. It is strong enough to destroy the outer gate of Wall Maria with a single kick, launch entire houses in the air, and send Eren's Attack Titan flying from the ground to the top of Wall Maria. After being put through years of brutal military training, Eren and his friends are prepared to lay their lives on the line to exterminate every last titan in the world and bring freedom to humanity once more. I’d recommend this book to anyone, manga reader or not, because I feel like the story AOT is trying to tell us is really important.

So we can't even be properly fooled, if that makes sense, because alot of these plot reveals come so out of left field, so randomly, as to be awkward. Shocking, powerful, heavy, well-crafted, and visceral… something that just took readers completely by storm. For instance, when Bertholdt Hoover attacked Trost, his transformation only caused a wind blast which knocked some cadets over the Wall. After destroying the harbor, the Colossal Titan steps on all the ships to ensure that they have been completely destroyed. In the anime, the inclusion of this "flashback" as not-a-flashback seems to serve as a means of establishing light-hearted humor to make the Colossus Titan's second appearance, and the ensuing chaos, seem that much more shocking. As Eren attempts to comprehend the situation, Bertholdt escapes under the cover of his Titan's steam using his omni-directional mobility gear. The Colossal Titan, along with the Attack Titan, assists in this by capturing ships by transforming near or directly above them and forcing their crews to jump overboard, after they had been lured into close proximity by Yelena and Onyankopon.
