So when I learned they were making a real-life edition of journal three, just like in the show with information added in as if Dipper himself had written it in corresponding to the various episodes of Gravity Falls, well...needless to say I was ecstatic.

The Journal says that the events of Blendin's Game takes place between July 29 and August 22, but the episode itself says it takes place on July 13, Soos' birthday. The line about "watches from within birch trees" may mean the illusion of eyes from the birch trees in the episode " Dreamscaperers."I'm trying to tell you that Norman is not what he seems! Just inside the front cover, the book has a monocle attached to the journal via a cord. Its purpose was unknown until it is revealed in "Journal 3" that Ford attached it to the book so he could read with one eye because of a burning pain in his right eye (most likely a side-effect of Bill possessing him), and it has been used as a bookmark by Dipper as seen in "Irrational Treasure." In "Scary-oke," an eyepiece is seen attached to Journal 1 as well.

While I appreciated the sections Dipper and Mabel added (as it tied in with the show where Dipper was in possession of the book), I really read this book for Ford Pines. He's a brilliant, sometimes oblivious man, who means well but doesn't quite get there. His words are often as eloquent as his handwriting, and his witty quips that fill in the notes of the book never failed to make me smile. As the series was winding down, my kids and I often debated, who watched Gravity Falls first, them or my husband and I? By the time of the series finale aired, we all agreed that it did not matter.
