About this deal

A Ravenwing Land Speeder Vengeance may replace its pintle-mounted Heavy Bolter with one of the following weapons: Land Speeder: C Tier: Expensive for what you get; it does make other units in your army with Blast weapons hit better and ignore cover against a single target (great for Whirlwinds or Desolation Squads). If you run a fair amount of indirect stuff, grab one or two of these.

The Land Speeder's main feature is its powerful anti-gravitic field emitting ventral plates that allow the vehicle to move without touching the ground, and to glide if dropped from orbit or off of a high structure. How these plates work is a mystery to all but the most senior and high-ranking members of the Adeptus Mechanicus. Librarian in Terminator Armor: A Tier: Another great character option for Terminator units. Sustained Hits is a great buff for regular shooty Termies, as they carry Storm Bolters and can take Assault Cannons with lots of shots, so plenty of chances to proc those extra hits. It does work in melee too, of course. The Land Speeder appears in several other games outside of Warhammer 40,000. Land Speeders are available as units for the Epic large-scale battle tabletop game for both the 3rd and 4th Editions, similar in design to the corresponding Warhammer 40,000 version. Land Speeders have also been featured in Chaos Gate and Dawn of War, computer games based on the Warhammer 40,000 franchise. The Land Speeders in Dawn of War are Land Speeder Tornadoes that are slightly different from the ones in Warhammer 40,000. They are armed with twin-linked, under-slung Assault Cannons and twin-linked Heavy Bolters that are fired by the gunner. Given how easy it is to destroy, the best move for the Land Speeder Vengeance is to stay away from the enemy army and in cover, firing the Plasma Storm Battery at maximum range. One bonus of the Vengeance is that it is a fast skimmer, allowing it to move 12″ and still fire the Plasma Storm Battery. This makes it quite easy to re-position the Land Speeder if it finds itself without a suitable target to fire upon. This also allows you to deploy out of line of sight or further away from your opponent if they get the first turn. Having Deep Strike is also a useful advantage, allowing you to keep the Vengeance in reserve if facing an alpha-strike army or if you are forced to go second. The Land Speeder Vengeance can actually be a potent beta-strike unit when facing a Drop Pod army. Generally, your opponent may not be able to deploy in cover when arriving by Drop Pod. This means there should be little to stop the Large Blast Plasma weapon from decimating any Drop Pod unit (assuming it passes its Gets Hot roll). After the Horus Heresy, and the reformation of the Imperial Army into the Imperial Navy and the Astra Militarum, the Land Speeder was no longer issued to non-Astartes soldiers, as their technology has become far too precious and complex to be risked in the hands of Imperial troops who are not the elite of Mankind.

Final Thoughts

Codex Adeptus Astartes - Dark Angels (7th Edition) (Digital Edition), "Ravenwing Vengeance Land Speeders", "Ravenwing Support Squadron", "Ravenwing Darkshroud" Inceptors: B Tier: These guys have the ability to get close to the enemy on their deep strikes, at the cost of being able to charge. Which is fine, because these guys would rather be shooting than fighting anyways. They can mess with your opponent's screening plans though. Sternguard Veteran Squad: A Tier: These guys are nice to have when facing enemy infantry, especially if they can get rerolls to wound. Not honestly sure whether the bolt rifles or combi weapons are better; both have Devastating Wounds, but the combis have Anti-Infantry 4+ and thus will proc them more. The bolt rifles have more shots (in half range), though, and thus are more generally useful (e.g. against non-infantry targets). The same applies to smaller (or bigger and fragile, damn blast) units targetted by Desolation Marines, Aggressors or your vehicles of choice. Gladiator Lancers bring their own Re-rolls, as do Inceptors through Twin-Linked. Always be thinking about if you need Oath here or if you can have something smaller punch up a weight class. Eradicator Squad: A Tier: These are a very good tool for dealing with higher Toughness targets, as they get full rerolls of hits, wounds, and damage against monsters and vehicles. They do have to get danger close to get full effect from their weapons though, so if they whiff they are most likely dead.

Devastator Squad: B Tier: These guys can be equipped with a variety of weapons to fulfill various roles, but are probably best used for anti-tank with Lascannons or Grav-cannons. They can ignore cover if they sit still, which is something they want to do anyway since they have Heavy weapons. Assault Squad: B Tier: Footslogging Assault Marines are actually interesting. What a world we live in! Given their unit ability, I think keeping all chainswords is the way to go, with perhaps a good weapon on the sergeant and maybe a couple of Eviscerators. Take as many plasma pistols as you are allowed though, and give that sarge a shield! Deathwing Terminator Squad: A Tier: Sort of a hybrid of the regular and Assault Terminator units, and can mix and match their wargear. Kind of a fun way to get Fury of the First on Assault Terminators, as the Deathwing rule is literally the same.Although clunky when compared to xenos anti-gravity engines, the Imperium has made great use of Land's discovery, most notably in the Land Speeder that bears his name, and the new Imperial grav-tanks like the Primaris Space Marines' Repulsor that has recently been brought into service by the genius of Archmagos Dominus Belisarius Cawl. Land Raider Redeemer: A Tier: Not only does this thing have decent transport capacity, but it can be an absolute menace with its strong auto-hitting flame weapons on Overwatch.

Tactical and Fixed objectives are catered for with the standard suite of small Lone Operatives and fast units that play your primary game. Scouts, Scout Snipers, Land Speeders (of any kind) and Inceptors will do just as fine a job jumping onto an objective to die, or Deploying Teleport Homers in the middle or your opponent’s deployment zone to keep a solid grasp on your secondary scoring options. How does Dark Angels deal damage? Firestrike Servo-turrets: B Tier: Their guns are good, and firing Overwatch on 4's is pretty decent. Not sure they are worth the points, but probably worth a try in some lists. Primaris Lieutenant: A Tier: Another very solid buff character, and can pair with a Captain or Chapter Master. Lethal Hits is just a nice ability to add to just about any unit, and lets said unit punch above its weight. Works well with Azrael or Lazarus to further enhance the units they lead. This week’s Hot Mess is a bunch Land Speeder parts and Dark Angels iconography, mixed with some weird weapons. The Land Speeder Vengeance needs help! Unlike the other speeders, it doesn't have Grim Resolve though. Which means that it won't fire BS2 or full BS overwatch if you're bringing it in a Support Squadron as an Auxillary to a Lion's Blade.

Origins

The Land Speeders fielded by the Space Marines employ this ancient technology to skim above the ground at breathtaking speeds. They use anti-gravity repulsion plates to perform breathtaking manoeuvres that conventional vehicles would find impossible. The vehicle is given forwards motion by a set of afterburning ramjets positioned on the rear of the Land Speeder. The Land Speeder is equipped with small stabiliser wings on its sides. The Land Speeder's anti-gravitic plates may be powerful, but they can only support approximately 4 tonnes, and thus the Land Speeder is only equipped with light armour. In truth, the Power Armour worn by the vehicle's crew usually provides better protection from enemy fire. Librarian in Phobos Armor: B Tier: Grants Stealth and protection from shooting by any enemy outside 12”, which is nice, but he can only give this to Phobos units. Probably best used with Eliminators. Ravenwing Command Squad: B Tier: Probably too expensive for what you get, but not horribly so. Might be a decent retinue for a character like Sammael. Always bring the full 6 models; you'll need the extra bullet catchers. Storm Speeder Hammerstrike: B Tier: This vehicle is an absolute menace to light vehicles. Its ability removes cover from an enemy unit hit by its weapons, which is slightly underwhelming compared to the other Storm Speeder types.

Some time after his death, the anti-gravitic plate technology he had discovered was used in the construction of the Land Speeder. The Land Speeder was issued to the Astartes Legions and to the Imperial Army as a light vehicle intended for scouting and lightning-fast assaults. In conjunction with the Land Speeders of the Ravenwing's Support Squadron, the Land Speeder Vengeance has proven its worth on the battlefield time and time again, able to keep pace with the fastest of the Ravenwing's vehicles and deliver devastating volleys from its deadly Plasma Storm Battery. It comes with a Heavy Bolter as a secondary weapon, useful for maybe putting some extra wounds on your target. I would not advise taking the Assault Cannon, as you would not wish to reduce the weapons range of the vehicle any further. Dark Angels are Space Marines, and they don’t fall far from the Index’s tree – you can see the Faction Focus for the Core Chapters here which covers the generic information for both Marines and Gladius Task Force. The Tempest was first fielded by the White Scars in M38 during the Evacuation of Barac. A squadron of three Tempests, led by Veteran Sergeant Jegun, was credited with destroying a traitor [1b] Flaming Skulls [7a] Reaver Titan that was about to overrun the Chapter's command post. Sergent Jegun was killed when the Reaver fell on his Tempest and destroyed it, but his heroic sacrifice started a tradition of the White Scars naming one Tempest squadron "Jegun's Avengers". Other Chapters have used plans provided by the White Scars to create their own Tempests, such as the Dark Angels' Ravenwing, although they remain less common than Tornados and Typhoons. [1b] Dreadnought • Venerable Dreadnought • Contemptor Dreadnought • Redemptor Dreadnought • Mortis Dreadnought
