About this deal

It seems from what I hear, rodico is so effective that it has allowed watchmakers to cut corners at various steps. Examples are oiling; if you get a mini drop on the periphery of the jewel, careful rodico can correct it rather than cleaning up the whole jewel and reapply. Also not using the finger cots that someone mentioned here already, doable because at the end you could remove the marks with... rodico! If that’s the case, how would you deal with oil accidentally touching the main plate, such as if you accidentally get some escapement grease 9415 onto the view hole in the main plate when oiling the pallet jewel?

Consistent renewal of small quantities of oil is ALWAYS better than inconsistent replenishment of a large amounts of oil.

Expired lubricants lose it’s effectiveness and may shorten a service cycle. A good rule of thumb is to minimize any amount of chances that may cause a functional issue. Replacing expired oils is CHEAP in the grand scheme of things. Do the oiling job right the first time around. It's easier to take your time and do it right the first time around then to go fast and mess it up. Cleaning up is time consuming and high risk. Hands should be handled by their edges, so do not grip them on the flat part of the hand. Yes, it's not always easy to handle hands only by their edges, but that is the way I do it - no one said this would be easy! MOEBIUS D5- Older version before HP1000 was introduced. Watchmakers used to MOEBIUS D5 before HP1000 was introduced. It's rumoured that one of the main reasons the industry dropped D5 was because there were still some natural oil components in it (instead of being 100% syntehtic). After you fixed all the problems how does the watch look in various positions? Is amazing what defects can do to screw up timekeeping and until the watches running in good condition it's hard to tell if the balance has a problem or not from a poising error. Then this is a modern screwless balance more than likely it does not have a poising error unless somebody's modified it. The factory poised it within the specifications of the watch it may not be perfect but it still should be reasonably poised unless you're having other issues which you are having. So now how does it look in various positions that you fixed all the problems?

This also eliminates the risk of accidentally “wiping” a small bit of abrasive material that will permanently scratch your glass surface. Plus, if the portion of Rodico used to clean these glass surfaces is never used to clean other objects (like gears/tools, which may have heavier dirt/debris), it can easily be re-used for potentially far longer than the time it would take for a microfiber cloth to get disgusting. More than likely if it's a vintage quartz it will require servicing. Start a new discussion with your quartz watches with pictures the movement So they can find you servicing information. I always wondered about this. Say you have the main plate all the train and bridges together and oiled to perfection on both sides save for one last cup. You dip your oiler into that cup , everything is looking good for the home stretch. But as you are lifting the oiler out of the cup your fingers have the tiniest spasm. Oh no. Under 20x magnification you can just about make out the tiniest smidge of oil on the rim of that cup. Can barely even see it honestly . Well? What do you do? Leave it as is? Rodico that sombich? Soak it up with pegwood? What would be the proper/non corner cutting approach? Dismantle the whole thing put it through the cycles and try again? Really?

I have also heard from watchmakers from other forums that Rodico is banned by many watch manufacturers, and their service Center. When changing oils, use something like Solvent H to clean the oil pot. Do not just simply wipe it with paper. I use Horotec F Pattern tweezers for handling hands - these are stainless steel and have large flat highly polished tips.

Don't depend on Rodico too much. The use of Rodico should a last case scenario. Rodico is great! Except the fact that most watchmakers keep them for years on end and never change/throw them out. If you do use Rodico, make sure it's less than a week old since opening. Certain positions like in the timing machine results above for you had random dots sort of? One of things nice when you getting weird stuff from the timing machine is to listen to the sound of the watch. That's the downfall of the Chinese timing machines they don't have audio like when she typically does. When you listen to the audio and you're having rubbing bumping hitting issues a lot of times you can actually hear that. Hairspring bumping in the something can be quite musical the sound it makes for instance balance wheel a course bumping in the things you'll hear that a lot of the times the timing machine season shows you that but if you listen often times you could hear there's a problem If you are doing this for a living, I would suggest use the genuine Rodico since it is made for the purpose, and may well be formulated differently again. Watchmaking lubricants used to be purely animal and vegetable oil. This is also the reason why older watches may smell like fish when you open it up. Watchmakers used to use sperm oil from sperm whales as a lubricant. It worked really well (considering the technology at the time)except the fact that it would gum up within several months.Rodico doesn't come close to any watch I'm about to assemble. It simply does not work unless making really cool oily stains is your thing. Oil containers and the surroundings of it should always be kept cleaned. Any build up around your oil container will make its way into the oil irregardless of the lid being closed
