About this deal

Because she carries the Embers in her, Nyktos is trying his hardest to keep her safe (also, because he really likes her and he likes her sexy body), keep her alive until he can figure out a way to remove the Embers without harming her and without her loosing her life if she Ascends. Nyktos is also... stubborn. Some of the decisions he made had me wondering what in the hell he was actually thinking when he decided that was the best course of action. Also, the way JLA handled, and portrayed anxiety was spot on for me. I really appreciated the way it was written and never looked down upon as a weakness. You know what he’s been doing to the Chosen who have gone missing?” Nyktos’s gaze sharpened on him. “These things called Revenants?”

I had forgotten how much I had missed Sera and Ash’s world, it feels like an old friend or a safe haven. I love every single character (apart from everyone who loves kolis, and kolis himself 🥲) every one plays such an important role in the story that without them it truely would not be the same. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I loved this book - honestly I think this was one of Jennifer’s best works to date, and by far my favourite book out of the entire FBAA world, it’s now one of my favourite books of all damn time. The way she has linked everything together, the parallels and revelations that run through the entire series is mind boggling. How she manages to create these amazing worlds is beyond me 🤯 In old Primal language, graeca meant life. But as Aios had said, it was also interchangeable with the word love. I'm glad that Sera and Nyktos maintain their individuality because that's the issue I had with Casteel's characterization being almost non-existent in TWOTQ and dependent on Poppy. Sera and Nyktos's arcs were balanced even though there was more focus on Sera's but that makes sense for the plot. The chemistry between Sera and Ash is so good (not surprising) and I really enjoyed the progression of their relationship in this book. I like that we still get to see them growing as individuals and as a duo – and how things aren’t always easy or straight forward. That they have to learn acceptance for themselves and for each other. It’s interesting how things seem so easy between the two of them, but at the same time, so difficult. The way they play each other, entice and goad each other – it’s so much fun and omfg I know it’s bad to be jealous of fictional characters, but…👀 The eather stirred once more in Nyktos’s eyes at the mention of the Primal Kolis, who every mortal—including myself until recently—believed to be the Primal of Life and the King of Gods. But Kolis was the true Primal of Death. The one who’d impaled gods on the Rise surrounding the House of Haides just to remind Nyktos that all life was easily extinguished—or so I assumed. And it was a logical assumption. Nyktos’s father had been the true Primal of Life, and Kolis had stolen Eythos’s embers.

Wait.” I dropped my hands to my knees. “You mean like a…a Primal of both Life and Death? Is that possible? Because you said should not. You didn’t say could not.” Ash also admits Veses wants Kolis and since he wants nothing to do with her, Ash is the next best thing and the more he denied her the more she wanted to break him, but Veses doesn't really want him, and he NEVER wanted her.

And he’s already walking a very fine line,” Penellaphe reminded us, but mostly Nyktos, whose glare had narrowed on the Fate. “But at this moment, what Kolis is doing isn’t our greatest concern, nor should it be yours.” Maia,” he said, speaking of the Primal of Love, Beauty, and Fertility. “I had her remove my kardia.”

It means the deal we made? It's over. The only thing between us now are these stupid embers. I want them gone, and then I want to be gone'' There would be no stopping such a being,” Holland added. “There could be no balance. Therefore, the Fates ensured long ago that such power must be split and that an absence of either ember would cause a collapse of all the realms. It wouldn’t be like the Rot—a slow death. It would be sudden and absolute for all. Kolis cannot Ascend another Primal to take the place of a fallen. By killing Nyktos, he’d doom himself. He understands that much, at least.” If you have read all the FBAA books then you know they get their HEA (kind of, in terms of love) so you know that no matter what happens in these books that they will be in love and have children. Sera will become the primal of life and LOVE somehow saves them. A love that Ash admits he cannot feel, not because of Sera but because he removed his kardia aka the part of himself he would have needed to feel love and the facets of it.
