About this deal

It’s not so bad that he couldn’t confess it to her because I seriously don’t see how that alone could destroy their relationship.

alternatively titled: a bland man does the bare minimum and people eat it up like he’s an austen character. It had a tinge of mystery that makes the people who are shamelessly curious pave through the pages at the Gods pace, to get where we finally understand what in the name of heavens is actually going on.Whereas, It Starts With Us reads like every other second-chance romance between two past lovers that shared a connection in their childhood. It just- wasn't palpable enough, which for me, has to be the most important thing when reading a love story. I don't dislike It Starts with Us per se, but it does feel more like a long and unnecessary epilogue to It Ends with Us rather than the separate, worthwhile story it should've been. now with this scene, my annoyance reached its peak and is higher than the fucking stratosphere because why you ask?

The confessions were brilliant – sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometime shocking but it’s a truly original idea for a novel. It consumed me in a unique way,I wanted so badly to right the things that went wrong,to kill Trey and Lydia with my bare hands,to align the stars in the sky so that Owen and Auburn would end up together. yes, i know this sequel is 100% fan service and a massive cash grab, but i am exactly the fan whose cash CoHo is grabbing. However, Auburn is one of the most resilient characters I have ever read and she isn’t going down without a fight. She figures it out about halfway through the story and it didn’t even destroy their relationship; she loved him anyway. the only thing i could give it ends with us merit for was the message of breaking the cycle (even that is up for debate). and the thing that annoys me the most is that Tate's present pov and Miles' pov alternates so whenever we read Tate and Miles' romantic progression, the next chapter is Miles being so deeply in love with another woman, it's just.

Reading a Colleen Hoover novel, to me, is rather like sinking into your favourite arm-chair after a hellish day at the office, kicking off those heels that have pinched all day and indulging in a glass of very expensive wine. I think it’s not so much the people that I don’t like, but the fact that I had to choose something I didn’t want to do. Because of all the layers in this story, there were actually three completely separate but intricately entwined storylines happening.I did not ever expect it starts with us and yet I could not think of what a beautiful and necessary addition this is. Deception and pain, love and loss, secrets and truths, hope and redemption—they all twist and tangle together creating another unforgettable novel from one of the freshest and most trusted voices in romance. When Confess starts out right into Auburn's story you're more than likely, within the first few chapters, going to be thinking the same thing I was, " Ha I got this whole thing figured out".

She would be shocked if she knew how much of her past has affected my present, which is why I won’t be sharing the truth with her. I know people are going to be mad at how often Ryle shows up here but that’s the reality of how abusive situations are, they don’t just die or leave you alone— colleen did a fantastic job at showing how realistic this situation is, at how much of a gaslighter he is. The pace of the story is gentle rather than slow which gives lots of time for the expansion of the growing affection of the two central characters and for us to become fully involved in this story which appears to hurtle from one disaster to the next although Colleen keeps everything grounded with strong character development and profound emotional depth. I also really like it when authors attempt to do something a bit different, especially in a genre that is defined by cliches and tropes. The other side characters were great additions to the novel and all had their distinct personalities.

I like that Auburn is a sweet, gentle and kind-hearted heroine, but I NEEDED her to stand up for herself more and fight for what she wanted and not always give in.
