About this deal

The cypress notes are very intensive, consistent throughout the dry down. Now that I've had Encre Noire for a while, I've become really sensitive to the vetiver in this. I remember walking through the fields and mountains in my home country and smelling vetiver in the air, this smells exactly like it. It's become a major comfort scent for me. I can also see how this can come off as gothic- the cypress brings a dark and forest-y element to the fragrance. I think of abandoned libraries and foggy woods. Application: Get multiple applications to compensate for poor performance. Spray your clothes as well. With its aldehydes and floral notes and a touch of sweetness, Sycomore (EDT) smells smoother and more complex, luxurious and refined than ENALE, and also more unisex to my nose. Rather than surrounding and supporting and blending the smoky vetiver-cypress accord like Sycomore, ENALE doubles down on it. It is deeper, darker, inkier (apropos of its name), and also more masculine. (Though I could certainly imagine a confident, vetiver-loving woman pulling it off.) And it is simpler and a bit more linear, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you love the main accord as much as I do. In all honesty, I have yet to detect any other notes or accords in this fragrance outside of the main accord (although I usually apply my fragrances sparingly because they are more for my own enjoyment than anything else, so perhaps if I apply more liberally I would be able to detect the other notes more readily). Contrary to some other reports, I certainly do not detect any canned peas. One night I was walking home with headphone and passed two ladies who did not realize that I could hear them comment: "How dare a man smell that good!" At that point It had been over twelve hours since I had applied it. I could not smell it on myself. First impression - all my fears vanished, I like it a lot, and I find nothing that might be polarizing, offensive or overpowering. Just a very very nice fall/winter/spring - vetiver/woody/slightly resinous smell that for me fits any occasion. Very slight sweetness to it compared to most other similar perfumes - which is actually a refreshing aspect and confers the "darkness" that everyone talks about. I agree - it is dark.

Even in its weaker form than the original, the fragrance is still unapologetic and required a somewhat refined taste. You will either wear it or it will wear you. As simple as that. This is not unwearable or 'hard to pull off'. While not exactly a compliment puller, I never had a negative comment on it. I also believe the same for patchouli and benzoin, found at the base. Only those who are purposely looking for those notes and accords will occasionally find them, and that’s stretching out really. The fragrance was created as a successor to the original Encre Noire from 2006 and the Sport version from 2013 as a more intense masculine edition. The new edition should remind us of the “ Encrier” glassware designed by Rene Lalique in 1913. Probably not your best first buy, but might be good if you want to experience something new and unique. This is a comfort scent for me. It makes me feel calm, warm and comforted. On my skin it is fairly quiet. Doesn't project much, especially after the first hour or so, but it does linger most of the day.

As far as Encre going - it is much more flat, one dimensional and darker in its nature. Encre is like a precurson to Gucci guilty absolute, dark woody in its nature, dry and maybe even leathery, where as Sycomore is light woody and green. Longevity though is even worse than Sycomore Edt. It is not a 'sexy' scent. Its not sweet and ladies arent wild about it. They're not offended either in my experience, but use something else for a date. Personally, I like even L'extreme even better than the EN EdT, because it has more Bums and lasts longer. I am not fond of vetiver so I was a bit surprised that I liked this after being being directed by a SA to try it at the Soho boutique. It is my armor for days when I know that the office is going to be trying. It is also my go to for special occasions. It manages to walk the line of light and dark with the obvious skill of the creator and poses that Chanel DNA. Is it pricey? Yes but a little goes a long way.The formal situations work best with Encre Noire Extreme. Dark suits, blazers, and surprisingly, white buttoned-up shirts go hand-by-hand with this dark juice. Pros and Cons Chanel Les Exclusifs Sycomore – a woody chypre unisex fragrance released in 2008. The main notes include vetiver, tobacco, and cypress. It is a long-lasting perfume with moderate projection. You don't know anything about him other than what he does for a living and even that is kept to a minimum. In terms of performance, ENALE seems to last most of the day, though projection is no more than moderate, at least in the dosages that I apply. Which is how I like it. BTW, I have to say that I love the flacon, too. It really does look kind of like a square ink bottle sitting on my desk, and the chunky, weighty glass is satisfying to heft in the hand.

Similar: Many fragrances incorporate tobacco as the main tone, but not too many include tobacco and incense. These are some examples (by no means comparable to Sycomore, they are better and worse in their own ways): Amouage Memoir Men Eau De Parfum is a good example; Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Havana is a tobacco masterpiece; Xerjoff Casamorati 1861 Naxos includes incense and is another niche gem for fragrance connoisseurs; Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Eau De Parfum is a designer that includes incense for a more mass appeal fragrance. I think of Encre Noire more as a piece of art than an everyday utility. The bottle reflects this point of view - it's stylish, but not very functional, and some of the aspects that make it stylish - the cube shape, the opaqueness - also make it less functional. It would suit any person who has years of experience wearing fragrances, unisex fragrances. This lasts an incredibly long time but it screams "night" so I would imagine it's best worn in the afternoon and evening as you wear the same formal suit to the same event. It has an autumnal air and is best worn in the late summer and throughout the Fall. Do not go away from "brand perfumes". Keep smelling then or even buying some treasures that might appear here and there. I have a small sample of Sycomore that allowed for 2 wearings; I feel that wasn't enough to really get to know it. So I want a larger quantity as soon as possible, because after those two wearings I am sure that I love this scent. It seems to be intriguingly complex and elegantly simple at the same time: it's all wood, but there's so much going on in all that woodiness. I feel like I smell like furniture polish, but in a sophisticated way. It seems impossible, but it's true! It lasts quite a bit, doesnt project a lot but nevertheless for the cost as a daily fragrance you get an amazing scent. Lalique is a French glasswear design house founded by artist, master ceramist and jeweler René Lalique. Born in the small village of Ay in 1860, and raised in both Paris and Ay, young René developed a fascination with the natural world which would fully express itself in later artworks. He formally studied art at College Turgot, but was forced to leave when his father passed away. At age 12, he began an apprenticeship with a Parisian goldsmith, catching classes in the evening when he could. He was able to further his education at Sydenham Art College in London.
