About this deal

Would it be a bit depressing telling me I was a rubbish friend, or would it be an fascinating insight about how friendships work for other people? That I prefer cinema dates to ones in bars and that I don’t do hugs (it’s nothing personal, I just don’t).

Friendaholic is a perfect example of the right book at the right time, I read this 2 weeks before leaving all of my friends and moving to another country and as such found great solace in the reading experience.

Yet we rarely stop to examine those hurts and joys; family and romance take up all the air in the proverbial room. Elizabeth Day is an author, journalist and podcaster and if you’ve listened to her amazing podcasts How to Fail and more recently Best Friend Therapy, you’ll know she’s charming, witty and incredibly open. An insight into Elizabeth Day’s experience of friendship, Friendaholic should be on every woman’s to read list. So I said I wouldn't criticise the book for not being what I wanted it to be but then I went and did that anyway. For all ebook purchases, you will be prompted to create an account or login with your existing HarperCollins username and password.

What's more, friendship is a universal experience that unites people and while it may be experienced differently by various cultures a fixation on division rather than connectivity seems counter-productive.Ultimately, like Elizabeth, friends are utterly integral to my life and to read such a positive book celebrating that platonic love was heart warming. And also Day brings her lovely writing style of honesty and humour which meant I devoured this in just a few days! It’s good to have this book in circulation but you feel the opportunity for a clear ‘mess to message’ manual is out there and will obscure this one.

If you are a fan of Elizabeth Day (or even if you haven’t read anything else by her) I really recommend this book.

The tendency to quote Day's conversations with friends verbatim adds more bloat to an already bloated book.
