About this deal

Thailand has a lot more to offer and so much more to learn. But this one small aspect is what drives the industry ablaze. Private Dancer’ captures an unfortunate tale of a travel-writer who falls in love with a beautiful working girl. He sees her dancing in a hostess bar, is instantly drawn to her and later pays her bar-fine and takes her home.

Written by a successful crime writer, Leather has obviously experienced the seedier side of Thailand for himself or at least, has a very good source. National Recording Registry Class Produces Ultimate 'Stay at Home' Playlist". Library of Congress. March 25, 2020 . Retrieved March 25, 2020.

Action from the get-go, this book hooks you from the first line. I’d heard some sob stories from farangs I‘d met and Leather’s take on what can and still does happen in ‘The Land of Smiles,’ rings very true; perhaps it even serves to educate those horny guys that come to Thailand and leave there brain at the airport! From The Desk of Loy Machedo: Why Private Dancer Is a MUST READ BOOK For Any First Time Tourists Who Plan To Visit Thailand!

But, there’s a twist in the tail and, although towards the end the narrative kind of loses focus, the message of the book is clear: you’re never going to win an argument with the Thais. Unfortunately, the book doesn’t make justice to the millions of ‘normal’ Thai women who live a decent life, and keep away from drugs, orgies and prostitution. Private Dancer has a brilliant cover (photograph by Paul Owen), which suggest exactly what the book is all about. The album received a positive reception from critics. The Los Angeles Times wrote that Turner's voice "melts vinyl". [16] What Private Dancer is and what it represents are two profoundly important things. Firstly, is simply good story-telling, in fact story-telling at its best; as good as it gets. Secondly it is culturally-insightful and incredibly sociologically profound; it is essentially an exposé of any and all Asian cultures and how those cultures view, perceive and interact both with their own nationals and those from overseas.Apter, Jeff (July 24, 2015). "Tina Turner: Private Dancer 30th Anniversary Edition (Capitol)". The Sydney Morning Herald . Retrieved January 29, 2022. What really took me by surprise reading this was how much it reminded me of some of the ex-pats I know here in Germany, and the insights I gained into their lives. Which is weird since NONE of these people are involved with prostitution or anything shady. A book about horrible people, all of whom deserve each other. The sex tourists are ostensibly the protagonists and written sympathetically, so you forget that what they're doing is sleazy and exploitative. Joy is also a protagonist, but entirely soulless, though there are valid and Freudian excuses prevented for that soullessness, and though your delicate Western sensibilities may initially be mortified by her flagrant money-grubbing manipulation, you warm to her as the book goes on.
