About this deal

In 1994 fledgling journalist Louis Theroux was given a one-off gig on Michael Moore's TV Nation, presenting a segment on apocalyptic religious sects. Gawky, socially awkward and totally unqualified, his first reaction to this exciting opportunity was panic. But he'd always been drawn to off-beat characters, so maybe his enthusiasm would carry the day. Or, you know, maybe it wouldn't . . . Louis also describes how he launches his podcast, Grounded, finally gets to the US to film a new Joe Exotic documentary and aims his sights on the latest incarnation of the far right in a world becoming radicalized by social media. Theroux the Keyhole is Louis at his insightful best, as he faces unforeseen new challenges and wonders why it took a pandemic for him to learn that what really matters in life is right in front of him. Louis graduated from Oxford in 1991 and got his break in television in 1994 working for the American documentary maker Michael Moore, who hired him as a writer and correspondent on his show, TV Nation. He then went on to make the BAFTA-winning series Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends, When Louis Met…, and a series of award-winning specials including The Most Hated Family in America, Miami Mega Jail, Altered States and the feature-length documentary, My Scientology Movie. Come round to Louis Theroux's house where the much-loved TV documentary-maker, podcaster and bestselling author of Gotta Get Theroux This finds himself in unexpected danger... Over the years, Louis has kept true to a way of working that is uniquely his own: by charming his subjects, he’s able to offer rounded portraits of the people involved in complex social issues and human dilemmas, while always resisting easy judgements.

As Louis woos his beautiful wife Nancy and learns how to be a father, he also dares to take on the powerful Church of Scientology. Just as challenging is the revelation that one of his old subjects, Jimmy Savile, was a secret sexual predator, prompting him to question our understanding of how evil takes place. Filled with wry observation and self-deprecating humour, this is Louis at his most insightful and honest best. The first series saw Louis up close and personal with some of the UK’s biggest stars: Stormzy; Dame Judi Dench; Yungblud; Bear Grylls; Katherine Ryan; and Rita Ora, with an average audience of more than 2.1m tuning in* (*Consolidated viewing figures for the first four episodes) in the first 7 days. The final part of this documentary on the nation-defining frontier conflicts delves into the difficult history of the Native Police, who from 1837 killed approximately 72,000 Indigenous Australians on behalf of the white settlers. Then, in an emotional sequence in Arrernte lands, film-maker Rachel Perkins brings her own family story full circle. Ellen E Jones Live at the Apollo 9.45pm, BBC Two BBC Factual announces six names that meet multi award-winning journalist and broadcaster Louis Theroux for the second series ofLouis Theroux Interviews, including cultural icons and industry trailblazers from across the worlds of sport, entertainment and global affairs.Combining one-on-one conversations with Louis’ signature immersive filming style, each of the six programmes explore their subject’s lives and careers up to today, including those at pivotal moments in their careers. From Mindhouse productions, co-founded by Theroux, the second series is expected to air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer later this year. LOUIS THEROUX IS A GENRE-DEFINING DOCUMENTARY PRESENTER BEST KNOWN FOR PRODUCING IMMERSIVE DOCUMENTARIES THAT EXPLORE THE CONTROVERSIAL AND COMPLEX ASPECTS OF THE HUMAN CONDITION. Marcel Theroux, a British-American, is the elder son of the American travel writer and novelist Paul Theroux and his then-wife Anne Castle. His younger brother is the journalist and television presenter Louis Theroux. There’s journalistic rigour to Theroux’s shadow play, too. A long, riveting segment looks at Doherty’s involvement in the death of Mark Blanco in 2006, in circumstances that are still disputed. Theroux sits there stony-faced as Doherty says things about what happened that night which, he himself admits, he may later regret. Theroux said: “This is a story that has obsessed me for years. How could a serial killer kill multiple victims in 70s London and remain unknown?

Net zero by 2025 can be achieved, claims this scathing two-part documentary; the only thing preventing the UK’s part in this is the government – but why? “They are completely and utterly gaslighting us,” says a furious Mary Portas, who has teamed up with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Kevin McCloud to prove that greener is now cheaper, study how other countries are doing it, and put it all to ministers – which involves sending Rishi Sunak a book by Jilly Cooper. Among the murders Marcel’s documentary will look into are: Eve Stratford, 22, a Playboy Bunny, who aspired to be a famous model, was murdered at her home in Leyton, east London, on 18 March 1975. She was found with her throat slashed. Welcomed into her holiday home near St Tropez, Louis and Dame Joan discuss the highs and lows of her multi-decade career, including her star turns in The Stud and as Alexis in Dynasty. Louis also hits the town with Dame Joan and her husband of over 20 years, Percy Gibson. It’s another day at the aquarium in this lovely series, and we are introduced to the sea cucumber that breathes through his bottom, cow nose rays that won’t stop breeding and need a contraceptive and Friday the naughty sea turtle who continues to get into trouble. What evidence was missed? What clues were the police of the time unable to make use of? As witnesses reach the ends of lives and memories fail, this might be the last chance to get justice for the three victims.” Eve Stratford (second from right) pictured with Eric Morecambe (circa 1974) (Photo: (C) Future Studios/ITV) Who is Marcel Theroux? But under Theroux’s stewardship, what emerges is something far more complex and interesting.Louis travels to New York City to delve into the mind of one of America's most polarizing figures, famous whistleblower and activist Chelsea Manning. In 2010, Manning, a U.S. Army intelligence analyst, released the largest set of classified documents in U.S. history and was sentenced to 35 years in a military prison for her actions. Branded a traitor by some and a hero by others, Chelsea reveals what drove her to risk everything by making the documents public, whilst sharing details of her life now as a DJ and public speaker.
