The blurb makes no bones of doubt that Olivia had been imprisoned for plotting to murder her husband. But she’s innocent. I enjoyed this psychological thriller. The Sisters had an interesting mix of characters with various secrets and dark sides to them. This story kept me guessing throughout and eager to find out how it was going to end. But when the guesthouse is ready to be occupied, Kirsty encounters the last person she ever expected to see: her estranged cousin Selena. It has been seventeen years since they last talked—when Selena tore everything apart between them. This book is a slow starter. The tension builds chapter by chapter, but not a lot happens. Until suddenly everything happens, and then the book becomes a lot more gripping. I love the structure of the book as it’s broken up into two parts. The first half tells of the events leading up to that morning as we are introduced to main characters. This book touches on mental health issues, which may serve as a trigger warning for some readers. But I felt the author did well to describe how Abi dealt with her sisters death, from the paranoia to the survivors guilt complex. Where was the suspense??? And, the psychological thriller part??? The constant is she crazy or not was pretty obvious. It was easy to figure out what happened to Lucy...and the later "twists". I gave this book a star because it is an easy read and I did finish it. I decided to give it another star because I felt bad that this book didn't even grab me at any point. I will not be reading any further books by this author.

Kirsty is starting a new life running a guesthouse in the Welsh mountains. As the first guests start to arrive including her old friend Selena, Kirsty is anxious for everything to run smoothly. Okay to be completely honest I'm not fully satisfied with the book but at same time it isn't that bad. It depends really (considering I have a pretty dark mind so I was kinda expecting more) I mean it's not boring as I read this in one sitting and gave it 4 stars. I can't go on. Really I can't. Between Kirsty and her whingeing, and the oh so poor writing, and the author treating me like a child and explaining every little detail, such as why Insect day becomes a standing joke for the school's Inset Day. And this:It's full of secrets, deception, lies and manipulation which makes for a completely absorbing read! There are several factors here. Someone is threatening Kirsty and Adrian, leaving dead flowers on the door step and then there's the cousin Selena and the trouble she brings and events that happen to her. It's very fast paced; events take place over about a week once we get past the first few chapters setting up the opening of the guest house. Libby Hall needs to escape from everything for a while. which is why the house swap is a godsend. The chance for Libby and her husband Jamie to exchange their tiny Bath flat for a beautiful haven on the wild Cornish coast.

Gosh I read this fast – seriously once started there is no stopping so there’s a slight warning for you. Don’t try and fit “just a couple of chapters” in before you have to go somewhere. The angry mob of villagers wield camera phones, the twenty-first century equivalent of pitchforks and flaming torches.” This had so much going on in terms of story development managing to keep me guessing till the very end. As for the plot, mystery-wise it’s not the worst one I’d ever read in a debut but to call it a thriller would be an exaggeration. Let’s put it this way- It did not keep me on my toes but admittedly I just did not care enough to try and keep up.Absorbing and chilling...." reads the blurb, and "....thrilling finale". Oh good, I thought, a chilling, thrilling read.....

As always Claire Douglas had me glued to this book, loved the red herrings along the way and even though I knew there was a big twist going to happen it still surprised and amazed me how easy she can turn a story around leaving me discombobulated!! The world could have ended and I would have still said ‘just let me finish my book in peace’There was something about Serena that irked me the minute she stepped inside the B&B. Nothing I was immediately able to put my finger on but you could just feel the atmosphere change in a heartbeat and I didn’t trust her at all. That said though, things didn’t at all pan out the way I expected them to. This is story about family, love, secrets and lies. Who can be trusted? I found it very difficult to work that one out, right till the very end. Such a great story - highly addictive. Really enjoyed this book and finished it in a day. I haven’t felt that way about a book for a long time. Thank you.” But then Kirsty’s cousin, Selena, comes to stay. They used to be incredibly close until something drove them apart and they’ve not seen each other in years. From the minute Selena arrives, so does trouble. Coincidence or not? Rose’s Alzheimer’s means her memory is increasingly confused. She can’t help the police – but it is clear she remembers something.
