About this deal

Another issue is that Ektar can have several different looks, depending on how it’s shot, developed, and printed or scanned, just like any film; however, with Ektar, even a 1/3 stop over or under exposure can noticeably effect the aesthetics of the picture. The biggest issue I’ve seen with Ektar is the accuracy of the colors, but it’s not enough to be a significant issue in most cases. Second, I would imagine that it’s more efficient to produce a single sheet of film and cut it into a large variety of formats than to manufacture multiple film speeds on separate machines (as they did in 1989-1991). If anything, err on the side of overexposure when you have to as the film handles overexposure better than it does underexposure.

Another option, which is what Fujifilm recommends, is to add Clarity later by reprocessing the RAW file in-camera or with X RAW Studio. On the four below, which were shot later in the day and with less light, and the final one in an overcast morning (and we get a lot of those here), the results were not so fabulous. Turns out, when you turn the saturation and vibrance dial all the way to a hundred, lighter skin tones don’t look particularly normal. I would love to get closer to the film, but I just don’t think it’s possible–this is as accurate as one can get on Fujifilm X JPEGs.

You may need something that can read high-density negatives and pass that data to you in 16-bit per channel — I use PrimeFilm XAs — though I’ve gotten great results with Ektar being scanned on flatbed scanners as well.

The downside is that it’s more expensive to have a professional lab develop and scan your photos in the long run.As with c41 films, in contrast with slide film, overexposure is alway preferred to under exposure and at times even box exposure. With the composition we wanted to created, I had him wear a short sleeve hoodie with a bandana and walk along the train tracks. This idea hit me one night, why don’t I shoot this architecture stuff on a different lens length and ignore the people set on rules. The park was originally meant for rock climbing, and loose carabiners can be found along multiple trails. It’s pretty incredible in the hands of talented shooters; take a look at the kinds of images people are making with Ektar.

Slide films are literally becoming more expensive than their b/w and print film relatives in unit cost and processing. When you say that one recipe or another is not exactly like the film, I think you may be overthinking this.In this image, the red-orange of the brick building renders very nicely and you can also see the vibrant greens from the highway sign. One of these films is more popular than the other, as Portra is known as the workhouse of the brand and capable of anything. We pulled over at the foot of the bridge that connects the shore points of Sea Isle City and Avalon.

His background and work has spread to non-profits like American Photographic Arts where he's done work to get photographers various benefits. I’ve always sought to try something new almost every couple of weeks to keep photography interesting. The film was introduced in late 2008 initially in just 35mm but eventually in the aforementioned sizes.
