About this deal
The engine is really named Hogwarts Castle in the films - Hogwarts Express applies only to the express service itself, and not the locomotive. It is painted in a crimson livery — a non-standard colour, as GWR locomotives traditionally used green. Travelling along the West Highland Line is a breathtaking experience with stunning scenery of kaleidoscopic-coloured moors, snow-capped mountains, shimmering lochs and rugged coast.
Around 40 minutes into the journey, the train slows down – and may pause – as it crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct. While Hornby (the successor to Tri-ang Hornby) may still have the moulds, they were modified some years ago to produce a Saint class replica. Build a LEGO Hogwarts Express train set, with removable side panel and roof, plus railway bridge and Platform 9¾, then begin your own magical journey! Be courteous to other passengers who may want to take photos from there, especially when going over the Glenfinnan Viaduct. In the Muggle world, the Hogwarts Express is a steam train known as The Jacobite, which runs on the West Highland Line between Fort William and Mallaig in Scotland.Only four adults were ever seen travelling on the train: the Honeydukes Express lady, the conductor, Remus Lupin and Horace Slughorn. The train forms a central part of the story, as it’s the transport to Hogwarts, where Harry meets many characters, including Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. Being an official vehicle of Hogwarts school, It is considered an extension of the school and thus falls under at least some of its rules and allowances. Then Ron skilfully navigates the flying Ford Anglia between the bridge’s arches before saving Harry. There have been several models and train sets of the Hogwarts Express released, including HO/OO scale models by Bachmann and Hornby, O scale by Lionel, and a new G scale model.
A previous Hornby model of the locomotive was actually a model of a Castle class locomotive, not a Hall. See our romance on the rails article and Cornwall by rail for more fabulous train journeys in Britain.
The fifth coach may have been added due to the fact that it has a luggage rack which the other four lacked, the luggage rack was needed so Harry could eavesdrop on a conversation involving Draco Malfoy.
Taking the Jacobite steam train along the ‘iron road to the Isles’ conjures a unique kind of magic for Harry Potter fans and railway enthusiasts. Please note, box and model dimensions are shown as identical however only represent the box/package size.
