About this deal

Eating raw liver is definitely not a Standard American Dietary (SAD) practice! So why in the world would a sane person even consider eating their liver raw? Most of the reasons are anecdotal with the primary one being that people who do consistently report how good it makes them feel. I must have looked pretty horrible with all the blood around my mouth and on my hands; but after not too long (of consuming a whole raw liver probably once a week or so) i had made the most stunning recovery, forever grateful to my old-school pediatrician and my dear family. Our nutrient profile shows about 4,000 to 5,000 IUs of vitamin A for a six capsule serving. We have performed several assays and no two produce the same results. Factors that influence vitamin and mineral content include the health of the animal and how it was raised, time (freshness), temperature (heat stress) and particle size.It is likely that all pasture-raised, grass fed, New Zealand liver will provide the same amount of vitamin A if comparing apples-to-apples (fresh, freeze-dried varieties without prolonged exposures to heat stress).

All animal cells contain some cholesterol; therefore, all animal foods have it, including ours. Most of our nose-to-tail foods have less than 1/10th of just one gram of fat per capsule... this is hardly anything. There is approximately 4 mg of glandular derived cholesterol per capsule to nourish cell membranes, to support hormones (including the synthesis of vitamin D), to synthesize neurotransmitters and to support overall nerve function — just to name a few. This is not to suggest that fat from quality animal products is bad for you. Getting some saturated fat from animal foods can actually be very healthy. Healthy fats help with neurological function, hormone production and reproductive health, for example. Is Liver Good for You? BenefitsThat’s not only important from an ethical perspective (it ensures sustainable farming practices), but also from a quality perspective, as it leads to a supplement with a better nutrient profile. If you are taking high doses of vitamin A in supplement form (for most people this is not recommended), be cautious about consuming offal, since this may potentially raise your vitamin A level to overly high amounts. Very high vitamin A intake can potentially be toxic and should be avoided, especially during pregnancy or in childhood. Recipes and How to Use As with any supplement, consult your doctor before you begin taking desiccated liver pills. Be sure to follow dosage instructions, as it is possible to get too much of a good thing. Ershoff divided laboratory rats into three groups. The first ate a basic diet, fortified with 11 vitamins. The second ate the same diet, along with an additional supply of vitamin B complex. The third ate the original diet, but instead of vitamin B complex received 10 percent of rations as powdered liver. In spite of widespread tradition and abundant scientific evidence on the health benefits of liver, conventional nutritionists and government agencies now warn against its consumption. The putative dangers of eating liver stem from two concerns–the assumption that liver contains many toxins and the high level of vitamin A that it provides.

As for concerns about vitamin A, these stem from studies in which moderate doses of synthetic vitamin A were found to cause problems and even contribute to birth defects. But natural vitamin A found in liver is an extremely important nutrient for human health and does not cause problems except in extremely large amounts. Most brands offer 30 servings per bottle, but others offer 45 servings per bottle. Take that into account when assessing how much the supplement is going to cost you every month (see below). Cost Per Serving So if you’re new to consuming organ meats, I recommend starting with half the prescribed serving size for a few days before ramping up your intake.

I don’t, however, recommend eating pork liver, due to how pork products tend to come from unhealthy/dirty pigs. Pigs typically are raised in factory-farm conditions and treated with hormones or other chemicals.

The No. 1 benefit of this organ meat is that it’s very high in vitamin B12. We know that vitamin B12 benefits red blood cell formation and improves cellular function. We also need it for nervous system function, supporting metabolism and for brain health.FACT: Liver contains a source of iron bound to hemoglobin (heme iron) of which up to 33% is absorbed compared to non-heme iron which can have as little as 2% absorption. If you're looking to increase your iron intake, look no further than our Spleen product... it has 5 X's the iron!] GRASSFED BEEF LIVER SUPPORTS... Immune system: Selenium is a cofactor for the body’s antioxidant defense (glutathione peroxidase, thioredoxin reductase) and (together with copper) supports optimal immune function.
