This is the fourth time this had happened, with first three being " Nyad," " Compatible," and " Distress Calls." This is the second Legacy set after 71741 Ninjago City Gardens not to be based on a pre-existing Ninjago set and the first to not have any resemblance to any set made for Ninjago or any of its subthemes.
According to Tommy Andreasen, the Overlord does not submit to the writing of fate by the monks of the Cloud Kingdom. This means that it is not affected by any objects that somehow "know" the fate of the one against whom they are directed. It's also possible that Overlord transcends the very concept of causation, based on its nature. As the Crystal King, he is one of the five main antagonists that doesn't appear in the first episode of their season, the others being Pythor, the Preeminent, Vangelis, and Kalmaar. Skales' character arc that began in " The Curse of the Golden Master," where he refused to fight the Overlord and preferred to stay with the other Serpentine in their village, is finally completed here, as he decided to go to the surface and to fight the army of the very enemy he had previously so feared.

This is similar to when he used Golden Power as the Golden Master to move all of Ninjago City and turn it into a fortress. After the power went out, a stranger stole a hard drive containing The Overlord and then put it in the computer, which was powered by Electro-Cobrai.In " Codename: Arcturus," the Overlord had become a pulsing amorphous, pink, white, and red blob with glowing red eyes due to his interrupted transformation into the Golden Master. Pythor is the only Council member to not speak in this episode, not counting Mister F who can't talk. Numerous memorable characters and vehicles return with the Legacy range, integrating new design methods and elements. 71742 Overlord Dragon is unique though, depicting something from the animated series but without previous representation in associated sets! The box doesn’t really do much to confirm or deny this, but you do get a nice look at the set contents. The Overlord(s) face off against golden ninja Lloyd. Strangely missing is the “10 year anniversary” Golden Ninja figure stand and logos that appear on the other January 2021 Ninjago Legacy sets. Maybe this is due to 71735 Tournament of Elements already including a Golden Lloyd, or maybe because Lloyd is considered part of the main set, and not a “bonus collectible figure”.
Wu realizes that the Overlord's ultimate goal was to corrupt the Elements of Creation, something which the Overlord stated in " Crystastrophe," and was said by Aspheera in this episode before being frozen.The swinging tail also seems reasonably simple, comprising three main segments which are linked using clips with low friction and ball joints. These clips enable the tail to swing, offering some play opportunities but limiting options for display. However, I like how purple blades are integrated again. The instruction manual suggests placing these blades together but you may also split them, creating an uncommon forked tail. With Garmadon's temptation to steal the Golden Weapons led to the events of Legacy of the Green Ninja with the Mega Weapon (and ultimately with Rebooted, with the Mega Weapon's destruction and colliding into space). However, the events of Rebooted were in set following Garmadon's arrival at the Dark Island, allying with the Overlord and unknowingly offset the Balance, which allowed him to cross over into Ninjago, and was defeated by the hands of Lloyd, only for Cyrus Borg to have built Borg Tower in the same location of the Dark Fortress, tainted by the Overlord's ashes, during Rebooted, which allowed the Overlord to resurface digitally. This is slightly inaccurate as Pythor was the one who released the Great Devourer, therefore he too was indirectly responsible for her parents' death.
However, it is unclear whether the Overlord has the First Spinjitzu Master's Oni bloodline or just the power of Destruction as Garmadon inherited that same power from his father and both he and Wu are Oni/Dragon hybrids. Crystallization: As the Crystal King, the Overlord can use his powers to crystallize terrain, people, objects, and even entire cities. Once Crystallized, said objects, people or terrain are under his full control, and whatever powers they possessed are also under his command as well. He wished to use this power to crystallize the ninja, and thereby gain dominion over the Elements of Creation. When Scott was revealed as one of the many allies that came to help the Resistance, he was first seen in his avatar appearance instead. Overall
During Misako's telling of Ninjago's origins (seen in " The Stone Army"), the Overlord was depicted as a towering mass of dark fire with a vaguely humanoid shape.
