About this deal

For more about Terminator 2: Judgment Day and the Terminator 2: Judgment Day Blu-ray release, see Terminator 2: Judgment Day Blu-ray Review published by Martin Liebman on May 10, 2009 where this Blu-ray release scored 4. Sarah Connor’s ordeal is only just beginning as she struggles to protect her son John, the future leader of the human resistance against the machines, from a new Terminator, sent back in time to eliminate John Connor while he’s still a child. While there are certain weaknesses in the script -- the action, effects, and genuine creativity more than make up for any minor shortcomings. However, the style of Terminator 2's modern 4K presentation actually has some striking benefits - impressive HDR implementation, surprisingly fine detailing, and a clean digital look with leaves it easier to stand on par with modern blockbusters.

It's genius, with a perfect villain in the upgraded T-1000 (somehow even more unstoppable than Arnie's Terminator), whose then-pioneering effects are still scarily innovative, a great upgrade for Linda Hamilton's Sarah Connor (again, much like what Cameron did with Sigourney Weaver's Ripley), and Arnie himself in his element. Terminator: A Retrospective (SD, 21 min) - Here we get a look back at the film's production that mostly consists of a conversation between director James Cameron and star Arnold Schwarzenegger.

For the very few who may not be familiar with the story, the tale follows an average waitress named Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), who suddenly becomes the target of an unstoppable, cybernetic killing machine from the future (Arnold Schwarzenegger). Though far from groundbreaking, fans who somehow haven't already seen this feature on previous Blu-ray or DVD releases will definitely want to take a look.

Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) in 1984 is simply a young adult with a job as a waitress and no real life goals aside from what her Friday night holds. Though most are quick and disposable, there are a few extra bits of development between characters and several hints and setups to plotlines that would be later developed in the sequels. Likewise, the entire runtime isn't completely slathered in teal, and there is some nice pop in bright outdoor scenes. After nearly thirty years, it continues to be one of the most influential sci-fi thrillers ever made. The Terminator' is a science fiction classic that still holds up remarkably well, serving as a testament to raw, low budget, innovative filmmaking. Clearly this is a controversial angle on the video presentation - it is, as stated, a devil's advocate argument - and as such many fans are going to shoot it down in favour of what they ideally wanted; that organic, original, faithful video presentation. Together, they flee from the metallic assassin in an exciting, edge-of-your-seat, effects-laden spectacle that eventually sees the very fate of humanity hanging in the balance. Endlessly re-watchable and effortlessly entertaining, 'The Terminator' is a true staple of the science fiction genre, and a defining example of blockbuster filmmaking. Excessive sharpening and haloing is present, although the term excessive is probably unnecessarily inflammatory, as the instances where it impacts your enjoyment of the film are almost non-existent, with it possibly coming across as a holdover of the prep-work done for the 3D release (to delineate objects and characters so that they can pop better), or perhaps just an over-enthusiastic application of the digital tools at hand.
