About this deal

I really like his writing style; he’s able to cover such complicated topics such as peer pressure, drugs, youth crime, racism, young relationships, preconceptions and a whole host of others, without it getting too heavy or bogged down. But when his world is turned upside down by a crash in a stolen car, he has to come to terms with more than his facial injuries…. He has to come to terms with his new appearance, his parents' reaction to his injuries, and then his friends and the rest of the school.

Through this trial he discovers who his true friends are, the difference between love and lust, and what it really means to be beautiful. The holidays have started, he's got a gorgeous girlfriend and everyone agrees he's the coolest dancer around.I like that the author didn't shy away from anything, and it was an honest portrayal of what burn victims have to go through.

It's all a bit different being on the receiving end of other people's prejudices, about disabilities, or race, or anything else. Even in the scene when he looked at his horribly burned and disfigured face for the first time, I was thinking more about how terrible that has to be for anyone rather than feeling especially bad that it happened to the main character, if that makes sense.Benjamin Zephaniah is a British performance poet who travels on literary world tours for the British Council. Overall Face is a very good book I would recommend to anyone who wants to read a moving story that’s stand up against social norms.

I wanted to know more about Martin because I never felt like I got a good grasp of who he is and his personality. I read this book as an adult and compulsorily, even though I would say it would be a great piece of reading for a teenager. It’s just a little too shaky in places, and whilst there aren’t any overt mistakes in terms of grammar and punctuation, I did occasionally find myself being jerked out of the story when somebody behaved strangely or said something unusual. It follows the story of Martin, a British teenager living in east London, and how his and his friends and family’s life changed after a horrific car crash.

As much as I adore Benjamin Zephaniah's poetry and his presence when he reads, I'm not as certain in my feelings towards Face.

Martin's life looks good with a model for a girlfriend, the best gymnast in school, and as a class clown. This book is amazing and i would recommend it to 12-15 year olds, it has comedy, romance and lots more. I thought that they were interesting and unique characters and I would have loved to learn more about them. The intriguing synopsis and amazing cover made this seem like it would be great, but I had so much trouble connecting with the characters.
