About this deal

Once an assignment has reached its due date, you can archive it. The ‘archive’ button appears in two places: on the group assignment item listing and the assignment item overlay – overview tab. You can also use the ‘archive all’ button at the top of the Current tab to archive all items past their due date. Find out more on Archiving here. What if I’ve archived an item by mistake/changed my mind? In brief, you enter the student’s raw marks for any assessment and the markbook uses sophisticated analysis to present you with all the data you’d want to see on an individual student or whole classes. Here is a key for the symbols: Can I view marks as percentages instead of scores in the Group Task Report? Suitable for any subject area regardless of how or what you assess. Show or hide up to five different assessment objective columns for each assessment.

Make sure you complete all parts / tiers. Assessment publishers can set up markbooks to have multiple parts (e.g. if you set an assessment with a part 1 and part 2), and/or tiers (e.g. if you have a "Foundation" and a "Higher" option). If any of those options are enabled, you will see a dropdown in the top right which will allow you to switch between those options. You'll need to ensure all tiers and parts are completed to be able to submit a markbook.

A combination of shift, tab and enter (tab for right/shift-tab for left/enter for down/shift-enter for up) Your markbook will autosave every few seconds. You don't ever have to worry about losing the data you've entered with Smartgrade! We auto-save your marks every few seconds, and you always know when that's happened as they go green once saved (see screenshot below).

You can use copy-paste to enter marks. We know that it can save time to be able to copy-paste marks. So we've enabled copy-paste on all our markbooks, allowing you to copy in marks from a spreadsheet, or copy-paste between cells. Just use CTRL+C (PC) / CMD + C (Mac) to copy, and CTRL+V (PC) / CMD + V (Mac) to do so. Instant in situ analysis as soon as marks are entered – no more exporting/importing and no moredelays One of my biggest frustrations as a teacher was having to use paper-based record systems, and later Word or Excel, which ended up messy, time-consuming, often unreliable and not reflective of my evaluation. In My Markbook, you can record what you want, how and when you want to record it. You can customise your markbook for individual classes and enter the results of all assessments, using our pre-defined assessment types or ones you create yourself, so you can monitor pupils’ ongoing progress in a way that suits you and your class. I really like the fact this is a single markbook with all features and whilst on first appearance the markbook looks really useful, since using it, there are a number of flaws that have appeared which given the initial cost are disappointing. When entering scores, I often use a code such as ‘nh’ for no homework in place of a numerical score. This has the effect of awarding an ‘star’ for that homework and thereby affecting the overall grade. Would it be possible to allow for letter codes to go in as well?
A teacher’s time is precious, and My Markbook saves that valuable time by keeping you up to date with changes like pupil premium or SEND, so you can be ready for any resulting differences in lesson planning or preparation. Like the rest of our SIMS Next Gen products, My Markbook accesses all the student data stored in SIMS, and automatically syncs with SIMS to give you instant, real-time information from across the school. Teachers can view a list of students in any of their classes and add extra columns to the markbook to see contextual student information alongside their results. Finally, I've updated the code for the grades so that if you enter an 'N' in the mark column, it won't assign a grade.

Powerful ‘at a glance’ and on the go analysis of individual student progress, each assessment or classes as a whole. Use "0" for students working below the level of the assessment. It may be the case that you are giving an assessment to a class and you have a student who you judge to be unable to access the assessment (e.g. they have special needs and are working below the level being assessed). In such circumstances we recommend assigning the student a mark of 0. More information on this can be found in this support article. Use quality-assured classroom assessment data as the evidence behind subject and school-level dataanalysis

Archiving an assignment moves it from the Current tab to the Archived tab in the Assignment list view. This allows you to tidy away assignments you’ve finished working on. Yes. All results are fed through to the Reports tab regardless of whether the students have completed the assignment (an empty cell denotes ‘not completed’) — or whether the teacher has marked the assignment (an em-dash denotes ‘awaiting marking’). I still can’t see the results for my assignment in the Reports tab. Why not?

Learner Monitoring System

Yes, there is a toggle at the top left of your screen that allows you to choose between scores and percentages. I can’t see RAG coding when I look at the marks for an assignment. Why not? The Current tab will show you all the assignments set by you (and only you) by default. How can I see if I have any uncompleted assignments? The RAG coding is no longer available, but you can still see students’ marks for each question at a glance. Can I get further support? You can enter marks at question level or at whole grade level. This article explains how this feature works. Filter by assessment type to offer even more powerful analysis of class strengths and areas for improvement.

The other major thing is that grade boundaries cannot be calculated using a raw score instead of a percentage, when using past papers, the boundaries are given as raw not %. Having to calculate %’s seems to defeat the purpose of having the markbook, plus, there is the potential for rounding errors if converting to %.
Supports Foundation, Intermediate and Higher tier students in the same class and will limit grades accordingly. You can see student characteristics by using the "Characteristics" slider. At the top left of the markbook, there is a slider labelled "Characteristics". Moving this to the "on" position will show the characteristics of your students, such as their gender, pupil premium, EAL and SEN status. You can't save impossible marks. If you try to enter an impossible mark (e.g. 2 marks on a 1 mark question), the cell will "wobble", and the value will remain whatever it was before you tried to enter the impossible mark.Yes, once an assignment has been archived by the teacher who created it, it will also appear in the archive for all other teachers (but remember that assignments set by other teachers are only visible when the ‘all teachers’ filter is selected). How can I find the assignments for a specific group or student? I’ve been working in the education sector for more than 25 years, and spent time working as a teacher. I remember all too well the challenges that came with assessing pupil’s progress and recording that in a paper based or separate computer systems – it wasn’t just difficult to keep everything organised, it was also practically impossible to align the evidence you had recorded with other important information about the pupils you taught. These challenges are exactly why our SIMS Next Gen My Markbook is so exciting. with broken calculations and out-of-date class lists. Usually one person knows how the process works, or All the data from your archived assignments is still available to report on in the Reports tab. How can I archive an assignment?
